Trio | 259 comments oh, I did really like Pirates, and it was good bc it forced me to read a bunch of books I wouldn't have otherwise read.

I signed up for Batchelor - hopefully I'll get a good team this time around. Last time my team was awful - I was pretty much the only one even trying, and someone actually got "removed" from my team!

WOAH, wait why does bachelor always bring out the drama?? lol and Why did they get removed?

message 753: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments Amazing, right?? I was shocked.

They failed to read a book for the category for like three calls out of five. Or something like that. Totally let the team down.

Nothing like some of the drama which did not include my group. LOL.

I've spent hours poring over my books trying to nominate a few for the MMRG awards. I totally missed last year and I felt bad that so many deserving authors didn't get noticed. But I'm going to have to stop soon because I'm going to see MORRISSEY tonight!!

OMG Trio..Morrissey !!!!
I was an avid Smiths fan in my day and went to their last concert in Uk where you had to wear a Smiths T shirt to get in .
Have seen Morrissey a few times solo as well

Janeylou | 1134 comments Ive hardley done any mm awards as not read.may books from lastnyear ..really behind and so many i want to do

message 756: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments We saw him at the old tennis center in Queens right before covid... he was SO amazing. I can't wait to see him tonight.

I would have loved to see the Smiths - I'm so jealous!!!

message 757: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments This is the last day to do the nominations. I'm going to run out of time.

I actually made a SS, so next year I can (hopefully) add as I go.

message 758: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments 2 years ago and last year I made a "released in 2020" and "released in 2021" shelf on GR so I could use that for nominating, but didn't this year and just don't feel up to the searching! I'll have to bring it back next year

I was so frustrated--lots of my team members barely read, and I realized that reading lots of books on one theme for the week isn't as fun for me. And it was just so disappointing to start the challenge and then have multiple people finishing books in like 2 seconds and always getting roses. MN Lisa was our captain, and I liked working with her, but doing Bachelor whilst SH was winding down (and I loved that challenge) just didn't work for me.

I went to nominate things, and everything I felt like nominating was already there. It's good that the stuff I like is getting love, but I didn't have a lot to nominate. And because of all the challenges I've started doing, I am mining my TBR and looking for books published in August of whatever year. I like to vote--don't care about nominating.

message 762: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments So, we're done. We got 10,253 points and served 154 of our 220 customers. I strongly doubt we've moved up in the rankings, but who knows.

Janeylou, thanks so much for seeing this through, especially on the phone. And thank you Amanda, Caipi, Claudia, and Trio for keeping me motivated when I was ready to put a fork in it and call it done.

I do love our little team, and look forward to our new and continuing challenges together.

I also want to give a plug for Gang Bang, which Caipi also plays. It has been a great way for me to whittle down my TBR, and when I've been looking for books for challenges, I go to my Gang Bang list first, which helps me figure out what to read next. It's an individual challenge, which I don't especially like, but you get ~20-60 books (you can decide how many) picked for you from a designated shelf and then you read them, rate them, and cross them off. It doesn't matter if you read them all or not. It doesn't matter if you finish them or not. It's just nice tracking.

Here's the link for the one about to finish: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

And the threads with all the books: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... #19 and Caipi's #21.

I've done a couple of buddy reads with linked reviews when someone has the same book as me on their list. You'll see a lot of other familiar names from the MM World. I don't think it's exactly a challenge, but a way to keep track of what to read next and stave off reading slumps.

Janeylou | 1134 comments 220 customers !!! This challenge is definitely more for 500+ pages !
Thanks so much for.doing all the sorting and descriptions Kirsten, i think i would have thrown my phone at the wall if i had to do any more on it . Not sure if its because its an app but very often when i go on sheets it says view only so i may habe to wait several hours until.i can use , so had 2 phones on the go at times 😄.
......it has been good to do a different challenge but i will not be doing it again, at least we all had each other for company 😄

message 764: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Ive never looked into the Gang Bang tbh , im not good wih ind challenges , took part in the MM read off the quarter and given up 😔

message 765: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 103 comments Trio wrote: "Claudia, do you have the Google Sheets app on your phone?"

Yes I have as I used it a lot for the Hunt.
That was the reason I was so surprised that it did not work here and thought the programming of the sheets were the reason

I totally agree with you on the bedknobs and broomstick series. I started the audiobook and had to stop as the Mcs are terrible

Aidan and Jake are an aquired taste. The last books is the best ... otherwise it seems like a bad copy of CS Poes snow and winter series

Thanks so much gor all the work Janeylou and Kirsten.

This challenge was a bit strange and but not totally my cup of tea.
Nevertheless I am really sorry that I couldn't contribute more but these last 2 months were not really lucky for me ...

At the moment I am home again as my 2 year old has the RS virus ... which is basically a bit like influenza but with bigger troubles regarding breathing and really high fever

But i thoroughly enjoyed talking with you so thanks for inviting me

I started Yahtzee and quit after 2 months and did not do the monthly spell I signed up for. This one is interactive at the beginning, and that helps.

message 769: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Yes thank you Janine and everyone else for all the work!! We now know what challenge does NOT work for us lol.

I used to do gang bang, I just realized I didn't ever finish because of needs for other challenges which irritated me lol.

Claudia, I hope your kid gets better soon! RSV is making the rounds hard this year and is no joke.

message 770: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments So sorry about your Fall, Claudia. Sick kids are always scary.

message 771: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments I used to the Gang Bang too - it was a great way to make friends on GR! And it was fun to pick books for others.

Thank you SO MUCH Kirsten and Janeylou - I know this one turned into a ton of work and I appreciate it!

Trio | 259 comments Morrissey was fabulous btw!!! He was so gracious to the fans, when they'd jump up on stage he'd hug the gals and high five the guys... and at the end? HE RIPPED OFF HIS TSHIRT. LOL.

He sounded incredible, and even performed a new song. It was a great night.

Trio | 259 comments It was 😀😀😀!
It was the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, completely restored and gorgeous theater from the 1920s. And it was sold out - 3,000 seats wow.

message 776: by Caipi (new)

Caipi (bookaholic17) | 34 comments Hi team, thank you so much for all the work and time you put into this challenge!!
I feel really bad because I haven't participated for the last few weeks, but since the unexpected death of my stepdad at the end of October, I have much less time to read and honestly didn't have the concentration for this complex challenge.

But I'm already looking forward to our India challenge and am so happy to be part of a team with all of you again.

Claudia, I hope your little one is feeling better again!! The RS virus, the high number of sick infants and the gradual overloading of the pediatric intensive care beds is constantly in the news here at the moment.

We're obviously better at this than we thought .
If we spent less time talking (twice as many posts as others) just think what we could do 😄😄😄

I was pleasantly surprised by our ranking! But without the chatting, I’d have left this challenge. 😒

Caipi, I’m so sorry about your stepdad. I hope things get better.

But we did really good

Thanks again

Kirsten | 573 comments Hello, team of forever love--

For my totally frustrating Plague vs Cure (I could see how this could be super fun with a good team) Challenge, I need books with a scientist (and genetics).

Can all y'all remind what challenge had "science?" I know we had one, because I struggled to complete it. I want to stalk threads.

Ashley, rockstar of my heart, if you could do a search for MM with lab/laboratory, genetics, and scientist, I would be so grateful.

Also, finished grading (for now) and maybe had more cocktails than necessary to celebrate.

Apologies in advance; also thanks.

message 782: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments Was "science" the Big Bang Theory?

message 783: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments I did not do that challenge.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I know Lane Hayes The Script Club series has a lot of scientist MCs. I can do a full search when I’m done with my coffee! Janine did the lab part for our team so she might have something.

I realized that Love Code has a scientist and I can read that. Thank you!
