Trio | 259 comments and I added all the coffees with my super large book... was that the right thing to do?

I have 6 spaces left so I could do 6 more drinks (tea and liquor) and/or fill in some of the leftover spaces in pastas and quiches.

Which should I do?

message 707: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Do the pastas Trio and dont worry if you leave some spaces, i have my long book to do in morning

message 708: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments got it. thanks!

message 709: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Totally leave spaces--I just added 4 more books (and could add at least one more) and will be filling in and leaving blanks.

message 710: by Trio (new)

message 720: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments Claudia, do you have the Google Sheets app on your phone?

message 721: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Girls there are now 100 books done and whats not been added we can just do without as i really have had enough 😄

Just need to do descriptions ...if we could all try and do a few to save Kirsten doing on her own

message 722: by Trio (last edited Nov 29, 2022 09:21AM) (new)

Trio | 259 comments This challenge definitely didn't turn out to be what I thought it would be.

I'm sorry it ended up being so much work for you ladies - thanks for making it happen for us!

message 723: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments We have to try Trio ...the premise is great , but doesnt help that the SS wasnt alworking half the time and putting in manually takes forever

message 732: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I definitely do not want to 😂

message 733: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Dont blame you !!!

message 734: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments And, done! we have 164 meals. I have given them what I think are clever names and descriptions (this is the funnest part for me). Let's just git 'er done!

message 735: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Great , thanks for doing that Kirsten 😘
Are you ok allocating meals as well ?

message 736: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Yes, absolutely.

Also @Trio--I've been giving Lanyon another try, and finally! I found one that justifies the hype: Come Unto These Yellow Sands. It's far from perfect and kind of dated, but I get it now (and I gave it 4 stars). What should I read next? Series or standalone work for me.

message 737: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Kirsten..
Winter Kill is a great standalone

message 738: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments Have you read Somebody Killed His Editor yet? It's a series of 4 books with totally likeable characters and clever mysteries. A real feel good story.

One of my all time favorite Lanyon standlones is Winter Kill - perfect suggestion Janeylou!!!!!

Seconding Somebody Killed His Editor because I love JX and Kit!

The one thing with Lanyon I'd say is if a series looks good to you make sure it's complete. There's been a couple she dropped and she tends to overplan and need to scale back so things end up coming out later then they say so I wouldn't get too excited about upcoming books (I've also checked out her blog and it TOTALLY makes sense so I try not to hold it against her and just only read the ones I either a. really want to or b. they're all already out).

I can also say the WORST Lanyon series in my opinion are:

The Adrien English series starting with Fatal Shadows--although this is pretty much everyones favorite Lanyon series and a lot of people's all time favorite MM so YMMV
and
The Bedknobs and Broomsticks series starting with Mainly by Moonlight.

Both are because the LI is a terrible person and I don't believe the "redemption" arcs (I never finished B&B series so I guess it could turn around)

message 740: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments LOL - we're going to agree to disagree about Adrien and Jake - I'm one of those folks who love love love it. I've read it too many times to count haha, but I totally understand why you feel that way Amanda!

The other couple I absolutely adore is Taylor and Will. The Dangerous Ground series is finished now, so it's safe - and the mysteries are really good.

message 741: by Kirsten (last edited Nov 29, 2022 06:42PM) (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments I'm going to try the Holmes and Moriarty and Dangerous Ground. I just Winter Kill from the library. And I'll prolly continue the Fair Game series at some point.

ETA I started Fatal Shadows and didn't enjoy it, so I'm leaving it off. And I think that Adrien punched Jake at some point? Or is that something else? I have been lumping Lanyon and Wiltshire together in my head bc women lying about being men (but I've gotten over it with Lanyon).

message 742: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments yes, there's loads of drama between Jake and Adrien (I don't think Adrien ever hits Jake though)
You'll like the rest of the Fair Game series - those are really great mysteries and I love Tucker and Elliot together.

When you read Winter Kill, the love interest is Adam who is Tucker's ex. Lanyon does that a lot - where the characters pop in to each other's stories.

Cool--I've got a lot on this week with other challenges, but I'll slot those in soon.

Also, @Amanda and Janeylou (I think), how is plague? I hate it, but it's partly because I don't have a cohesive team, and we got penalized because 2 people dropped out, and the tasks are dumb, and the rules are so restrictive, and...

but maybe that's just me. I think challenges where I have to do a lot of tracking aren't my favorite. Also, there's no team captain, and not everyone on my team is good at following directions. I can't believe we're only halfway done.

message 744: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Im enjoying it but we do have a good team , although one doesnt pop on very often , fortunately we have Brittany on our team , but she leaves us to do all the checking in and decision making .
...i know what you mean about the restrictive tasks but our Amanda is great at hunting for things so i ask or take a look at her choices 😄😄

message 745: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Im expecting regular bingo to end soon and my fantasy group challeng is 'off world' this month, so wont be doing many , so looking forward to.a nice easy Decembers reading 😊

message 746: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I am loving plague but I agree with Janine we have a wonderful team! I actually like the tasks but I kinda expected it based off Brittany’s last challenge (which Caipi hated because she also had a terrible team). If you ever need me to search for something don’t hesitate to ask!

Thanks, Amanda -- I have been doing some spying on other teams when I'm stuck. I'm also (because I don't know the team and don't really care) not doing anything I don't want to. I have so many good books on my TBR, and I'm trying to finish my gang bang, that I'm not going to re-read Things Fall Apart (which I did not enjoy in college) or Finding Nouf (which sounds good and I added it to the queue, but not this week) just for points.

I don't think anyone else on my team has played before, and none of us have a sense of strategy.

message 748: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Plus , Kirsten , i am only just getting the hang of how it works , took me a lot longer on this one 😄

message 749: by Trio (new)
