Any other topics you’d like to discuss? Your overall opinion of the story?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1811 comments I was skeptical about this one at first because of the focus on the new cast, but Brockmann does such a fantastic job of fleshing them out so well that I really enjoyed it.

I look forward to seeing how the different operatives mesh with the former SEALs.

What a difference a reread makes! The audio helped a lot in me enjoying this more the second time around but going into it knowing that it wasn’t about SEAL Team 16 allowed me to immerse myself in the story.

Brockmann has a unique skill in managing so many storylines and weaving them together in a way that feels like they’re one. I love multiple angles so this is my happy place.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments The shift from SEAL Team 16 to other covert operators was interesting. Troubleshooters have a lot more latitude and far fewer rules to get the mission done.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1811 comments I just remembered one aspect that I really enjoyed and that is Tess getting herself out of the cell at Bashir's compound. I like how she rescued herself in such a clever way.

Oh, there will be a lot more latitude with Troubleshooters, Anita. Good point!

Lauren, I thought it clever how she used their misogyny against them. This was a special moment.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I liked how Tess shocked Nash after he found out how creative she was to get out of the cell. I chuckled and thought, you didn't give her credit for her abilities.

I enjoyed this story a lot. Although I must admit that I hoped Tess would end up with Decker. I wasn't a big Nash fan at first. He changed my opinion after a few chapters.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Nash and Decker both underestimated Tess's abilities. They didn't see her as an operator, they were used to her being support and didn't view her as a field operative.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9292 comments Mod
Nash did underestimate Tess’ skills, time and again. His judgment was clouded. That was a good moment.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I thought Decker showed more faith in Tess. Decker only balked when he needed the Nash/Decker team. He didn't need to tell Nash what to do if they were in a jam.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9292 comments Mod
I thought he did, too. He raised his concern and then moved on.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1811 comments I never felt any real attraction between Decker and Tess. He claims to have wanted to be with her but never did anything about it and she was obviously head over heels for Nash the entire time. Consequently, knew they would never end up together.
Sorry Sharon :)

I never felt a Tess/Decker vibe either. It came across as brotherly😬

Yes, this is a good word for it.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments Lauren,

I didn't think there was any attraction between Tess and Decker either. The way the story started, I thought that was the direction the story was headed; that is, until the second or third chapter. At that point, I knew that wasn't the author's plan.

I liked Decker better than Nash. I wasn't a Nash fan until somewhere around 1/3 of the book. It was at that point that I started to root for him.

I'm looking forward to Decker's book.
