Sofia Ghaffari witnessed the murder of her husband Dimitri, was then forced to marry the murderer and was sexually abused and mutilated by Bashir. She escaped during the earthquake after having struck him with a sword. It was still a struggle to survive as a woman alone in that city. What did you learn about her before her encounter with Decker?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Sofia was very smart. She knew how to stay under the radar, posing as a prostitute. She knew that Bashir's men would be hunting for her. She had to figure out how to get out of the country without attracting attention.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I agree with Robin. Sofia is smart. She also has covert skills that helped her stay under the radar. I liked how she stayed back and watched what was happening in the bar. She knew she couldn't trust anyone when she saw Lartet's reaction to her note.

She was highly skilled and could predict the next moves before they happened. Those skills were keeping her alive and she played smart. Plus, she knew how to survive while she was being held captive by Bashir. She was the one that thought it was a bad move for Dimitri to meet with him.

Sofia is a survivor.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1811 comments I was so impressed by Sofia's strength and resilience in not only surviving the abuse but taking advantage of the earthquake to knock her abuser out and escape.

This was only reinforced throughout the book. In fact, Sofia is my favorite character in the book. I can't wait for her to get her HEA.

Tess and Sophia were the stars for me. The women rocked.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Sofia is a survivor and was willing to do whatever it took to do that. She thought she could trust Lartet but was smart enough not to approach him directly. By surveilling him and seeing his reaction to her note, she knew he was no friend after all.

That was instructive about Sophia. Smart move.
