The novel is about a professor who is zapped by his own machine that he created causing him to leave his body. His wife thinks that he Is dead but his nephew does not believe that he is dead. The professor’s spirit/soul embarks on finding someone who can help him communicate to his family that he is not dead…

The title of the book may have a “Dr. K.” In it or something.

I read the book in the early 1980s. The book could have been written in the 60s or 70s.

It was written by some satanist or sadistic author of some sort.

Yes, thank you very much. That’s the book I meant. I never finished reading the book 35 years ago, so now I feel that I have the courage to do so. I can share this with you if you care to hear it… I borrowed the novel from my neighbor one morning and read it through out the day. I was alone with my sister that day as I continued to read it into the night. Just before bedtime, a dog came to my veranda and started barking and growling. There were four dogs from the neighborhood, in my yard growling, barking and scratching on the window and at the door as if trying to get into my house. My sister an myself got so terrified and didn’t know what to do. We sat on my bed contemplating what we could to get the dogs to go away as I feared that they might break the window and get in. And then, of course superstitious me… I thought about the novel, as that was the only thing that had happened different that day. I thought and reasoned with my sister that it had to be because of the novel. So, I picked up the novel and threw it out of the house through the bathroom window into the backyard. A few minutes later, the dogs were gone. The first thing the next was I went picked up the novel and returned it to its owner. Strangely enough, he asked me about the dogs the night before. He thought it was strange too, but I never revealed to him about my suspicions. This is a true story but it may have nothing to do with the novel therefore, I have never shared it with anyone before. I know that there could have been other explanations such as a feral cat in my yard, or on the roof etc. However, I associated the novel to the incident and spent many years just trying to forget about the book and not wanting anything to do with it. So now I want to finish reading it. Hopefully, read it on my iPad… In any case, thanks for your help.
