Here's a semi-romantic, coming-of-age, short epic fantasy (does that constitute an oxymoronic statement? Huh. Anyway), with several options:
A small (green) 3-sided glass bottle with stopper, with some nasty medicinal-smelling liquid inside (I'm thinking Floradix. Hate that stuff!)
A wooden box, covered in oriental-style carved dragons. They'll need red ruby eyes inset (red glass beads, an awl or fine drill and some crazy glue would work!)
A bag of three polished white bones of equal length, in a little bag or wrapped in cloth
A yellow versus blue chess set and board
This is a pretty obscure book - I can't really recommend it generally, but I'm hoping someone will see the link to this discussion on its page, and the info might find the right reader. :)
(If you've never read any Susan Cooper, go straight to The Dark Is Rising and see if you want to read the rest of the sequence, is my advice!). ;)
