Me too, I first read this one as a group read thanks to this group. So if you haven't read it yet highly encourage you to.

I have 3 books in this series, books 1 and 3 , but have started to read this one first.

I think it can be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, it's better to read the others first IMO, as we gradually develop a picture of Wulf (the hero of this one) throughout the other books, and by the time you reach his book (this one) you are so ready for him to get his HEA.
I really love this book, but did not read it 'cold' as I had already read the other books. I hope you enjoy it. Wulfric's character can be a little hard to like at first, but he's really just a very lonely man trapped inside the formality and expectations of his life as a duke.
I'm not sure whether it's a great idea to vote in books that are #6 in a series for the BOTM, as it's not really fair to those who haven't read #1-5 LOL. Oh well. Hopefully those reading this one without the other books can get into it and enjoy.

I do agree about voting for later books in series.
I have had this book for a few years, waiting to be read. I like Mary Balogh. She was one of the reasons I started reading historical romance. Haven’t read one of her books for some time. Been collecting this series and her Huxtable and Westcott series.
I like a grumpy stuffy Duke. Who finds love and happiness 😄

IMO this is Mary Balogh's best book (out of her many, many books LOL). Enjoy!

Synopsis:
All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke’s eye—and she was the only female in the room who wasn’t even trying. Christine Derrick is intrigued by the handsome duke…all the more so when he invites her to become his mistress.
What red-blooded woman wouldn’t enjoy a tumble in the bedsheets with a consummate lover—with no strings and no questions asked. An infuriating lady with very definite views on men, morals, and marriage, Christine confounds Wulfric at every turn. Yet even as the lone wolf of the Bedwyn clan vows to seduce her any way he can, something strange and wonderful is happening. Now for a man who thought he’d never lose his heart, nothing less than love will do.
With her trademark wit, riveting storytelling, and sizzling sexual sparks, Mary Balogh once again brings together two polar opposites: an irresistible, high-and-mighty aristocrat and the impulsive, pleasure-loving woman who shows him what true passion is all about. A man and a woman so wrong for each other, it can result only in the perfect match.
