Hi! I'm looking for this book I read as a young teenager. I'm not sure if it's a young adult novel or not but it felt pretty adult to me at the time. Also do not remember if it was fiction or not, I think he actually had a friend cut off contact and then he wrote that story.
The way I remember the story they were friends but not even very close, but then he tries to find her with clues he thinks she left for him but then he finds out that she actually never intended for anyone to look for her. The title had something Japanese sounding in it, possibly the woman's name was Japanese but I might be wrong
