Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10119 comments Because it’s that or Soldier, Sailor and I wanted the latter to at least be shortlisted.

Hoping to see some more Granta Best of … authors on the list including a group member!!

that's two authors for now. Who's the third? the forth?

switterbug (Betsey) (goodreadscomswitterbug) | 50 comments I don't think it has to be either Demon Copperhead OR Soldier Sailor on Booker longlist. I'm confused! What does one have to do with the other?

They’re both Faber books, and apparently only one has made it on to the longlist

Just one from Faber, per the rumors.

message 1215: by Mohamed (new)

Mohamed Ikhlef | 817 comments Rumors say it is not DC. So it is likely Soldier sailor (Irish author) or other titles from Faber

message 1216: by David (new)

David | 3885 comments I've also thought Shy has a good chance. Shy is another one from Faber. GY's post in message 1205 lists some of the notable Faber books.

message 1217: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauramulcahy) | 122 comments I would love if it isn't DC- I thought it really lost steam about halfway through and I think winning two major book prizes is more than enough for it.

This is hilarious! It somehow does not surprise me that a professor of early modern English lit is overly picky about modern-day novels.

On the admin side, I just got a picture Captcha creating a second thread in a few minutes after none for days. If that happens again tomorrow, creating 13 book threads could take a while...

Oh no, after I swore to never read another Barry book again after how much I disliked Days Without End- the longlist is off to a very rough start for me.

I'm already inwardly griping about the Zadie Smith, started the ARC a while ago but set it aside because it didn't grab me, the subject matter has potential but the delivery seemed quite stilted and wooden.

The Bernstein

You're right. Just rumors for Bernstein.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10119 comments How accurate is the Irish slam Poet as that surely has to be Feeney?

Kevin Jared Hosein (kjaredhosein) | 18 comments The deduction process on this topic reminds me of when I was entering the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. Saw that one of the judges' Instagrams, an older chap, that he really liked hiking so I entered a short story I'd done about an older chap who really liked hiking. Ended up winning the whole thing. That's probably not why it won, though... but maybe it helped.

It's fun, regardless.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10119 comments Just hope the judges have a thing for famished ghouls

Mohamed Ikhlef | 817 comments I am rooting for Hungry ghosts Kevin, it truly deserves a place on the shortlist. I remember one of the judges talked about the internationality of the prize and how they are keen to include many writers from different countries.
Finger crossed.

Folks here are rooting for it more than I am. I don't want them to be disappointed. I hadn't written it with prizes in mind and was honestly surprised when I saw it coming up on predictions. If it does happen, it would be the first time a Caribbean-resident author has longlisted for it.

It's a very packed year this year!

I’ll be surprised if Millie Bobby Brown’s debut makes the cut…
