Thanks, I'll do that, though I get the feeling that that folder is where requests go to die.

Also the one with "Extraordinary Voyager #27" - you say it is not a valid series, what do you mean by that? wikipedia is telling me it is a series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyages...
and the series is here on goodreads:
https://www.goodreads.com/series/3546...
The book is not listed under that series though, should it be?

Also the one with "Ext..."
Hi there, thanks so much for helping!
It looks like the series has been updated since I started this thread in July, which I didn't notice... This changes my request a bit as it looks like some issues have been solved while other things have simply been changed, creating new/different problems that need to be addressed. I actually think the series is more of a mess than it was before.
I've updated my original post accordingly.

Sigh, it looks like somebody has re-created the series (https://www.goodreads.com/series/3546...), which has been removed at least once before. This specific series has been discussed in this forum before (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). It is not a valid series according to Goodreads because it has no characters, locations, etc. in common (see here in the Librarians Manual: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...). It's merely a "series" by virtue of being a collection of stories by Verne.
Does this make sense? Not really, but other users (and possibly Goodreads staff) have determined that it's Goodreads's policy and for the sake of consistency across books in the series it should be deleted.
I'll create a new thread requesting deletion/clarification. (Edit: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)
For now, it looks like the phrase has already been removed from the title.

The complete one-volume item that you linked to (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...) doesn't appear to be part of this series -- different publisher, difference cover style, etc. -- so I didn't include that one.
I also added a Librarian Note to all 5 books, stating "Per GR policy, if a series has been published with a different number of books, a separate series should be created. Do not combine this book with other Volume 2s (or Tome 2s or whatever) unless they are part of the FIVE-VOLUME set."
Hopefully that will prevent this specific problem from recurring.
That said, there are a number of OTHER French volumes (Tome 1, Tome 2, etc.). If any of these are other editions of this 5-volume set, please let me know and I can combine them properly.

Added same librarian note to those three books.

Thank you so much for working on this!
Goodreads policy is actually to create series based on the book content, not based on the publisher or edition, but in hindsight it probably doesn't make sense to add the complete version to every version of the series because that will get confusing and unwieldy. It probably makes the most sense to add the complete version only to the most popular version of the series, which would be the two-book series.

Creating a series page for a book published in multiple volumes is allowed, but the complete book should never be added to those series. The complete book can be linked in the series description.

Good to know!
It has been published as both a single volume and as 2-, 3-, and 5-volume sets. These are not properly reflected in the series but are all mixed together.
Per the manual (https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/... The bolded section applies here, so it probably makes most sense to create a different series for each version as described below; the other versions of the series should perhaps be linked in the series description (like you would do if you created different series for a set of books based on different reading orders).
There's also this (from this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
First series, the two-book series - suggest just titling this one "Mathias Sandorf" as it seems to be the most popular version of the series
Book 1/2: The Conspirators of Trieste
- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
(I suggest ignoring the editions that split Book 1/2 into two parts as they have no ratings/review and including them in this series seems way too complicated/something Goodreads might not even support. I'm referring to - Book 1, Volume 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... and - Book 1, Volume 2: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6....)Edit: never mind, they can be added as "Book 1, part 1 of 2" as seen in this series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4075...
Book 2/2: The Captives of Antekirtta
- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Books 1-2: Mathias Sandorf
- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
Second series, the three-book series - no idea what to title this one, "Mathias Sandorf, Three-Volume Edition" maybe?
- Book 1/3: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... (this needs to be un-combined from the other editions of Book 1/2 from the two-volume series, above, as they are not the same book due to the different ways they are combined)
- Book 2/3: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... (ditto on the un-combining)
- Book 3/3: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... (ditto on the un-combining; this is currently incorrectly combined with two editions of Book 3/5 from the French version of the series)
- Books 1-3: Mathias Sandorf: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
Additionally, “erster/zweiter/dritter band” means “1st/2nd/3rd volume” and so this phrase should probably be deleted from the titles per Goodreads formatting policies.
Third series, the five-book series - no idea what to title this one either, "Mathias Sandorf, Five-Volume Edition" maybe?
Tome 1/5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... (this needs to be un-combined from the other editions of Book 1/2 from the two-volume series, above, as they are not the same book due to the different ways they are combined)
Tome 2/5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... (ditto re: un-combining)
Tome 3/5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Tome 4/5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Tome 5/5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Books 1-5: Mathias Sandorf: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
Finally:
"Mathias Sandorf: A Play In Three Acts" should not be included in any of the series as it is an adaptation. "William Busnach" needs to be added as an author per Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Mathias-Sandor... must be the one to adapt the book to a play.
Original post below, please disregard.

Mathias Sandorf is a Jules Verne novel that was published in multiple volumes and is, therefore, treated as a series. The existing Goodreads series is here: https://www.goodreads.com/series/2882...
There are several issues.
Adding the combined editions
Two Goodreads entries currently exist for published books that include Mathias Sandorf in its entirely. They should therefore be added to the existing series:
- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... ("Extraordinary Voyages" should be removed from the title as this is not a valid series)
- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... (that's French for "complete collectors edition" and so is presumably the complete edition—but let me know if additional verification is needed)
Two-book series
The existing series, as linked in the first paragraph, is a two-book version of this series. Each book has issues.
Book 1: The Conspirators of Trieste
This entry needs to be combined with other editions of Book 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (Edward Brumgnach is incorrectly listed as the author—he is the translator per Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mathias-Sandor...)
Confusingly, Book 1 is at least sometimes split into two volumes, The Conspirators of Trieste and The Wrestlers of The Jura. See this entry from AbeBooks: https://www.abebooks.com/first-editio...
It is unclear whether books titled "The Conspirators of Trieste" are simply both parts combined (with the title shortened), or if they are in fact only Volume 1 of Book 1. However, in at least a couple cases the book has indeed been split into two volumes; therefore, the following entries need to be added as a new subseries (I think? not sure how Goodreads handles this):
- Book 1, Volume 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
- Book 1, Volume 2: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
Book 2: The Captives of Antekirtta
This entry needs to be combined with the other editions of Book 2:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (again, Edward Brumgnach is incorrectly listed as the author—he is the translator)
3-volume edition
German translators have also split the book into a 3-volume edition. I suggest that these be added as a subseries (I think?):
Book 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Book 2: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Book 3: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Additionally, “erster/zweiter/dritter band” means “1st/2nd/3rd volume” and so this phrase should probably be deleted from the titles per Goodreads formatting policies.
5-volume edition
Finally, there is a 5-volume edition in French, which, again, should be added as a subseries (I think?):
Tome 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Tome 2: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Tome 3: (two editions to be combined)
Tome 4: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
Tome 5: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
For each of these, the language should probably be added, and descriptions cleaned up.
