Hey guys! There is a tie between two books for the second BOTM, should I create a poll with only those two books and see which one wins? Maybe have the poll for a day or two.
I think with whatever time you give the pill I am sure we will have a second book picked out in 1 day of the poll being opened!
Hey guys have you all noticed that Kat (I’m assuming she’s a new member) keeps creating threads? Has she asked any of us permission or anything like that or what do we do?
Hey, thanks for bringing it up- I did notice, I think I was just in the middle of something. No, she hasn't asked permission from me. Low key, she would be a good person to run the Question of the Day thread that we used to have. We could ask her if she wanted to do that instead, since creating threads without mod permission isn't allowed. Or we could have a folder with similar icebreaker questions.
Sorry for the rambling 😆 Hopefully that made sense!

She has not asked me either and I would be fine with her being in charge of question of the day! Not going to lie I miss it but I keep running out or forget to post the new question.
Hey guys! Do you guys want me to announce the tie breaker winner and create October's BOTM Nominations or wait a little bit?
I don’t mind is she does the question of the day but I think we do need to tell her to stop creating new chats and just stick to asking questions in chats already made no?
Hey V technically the poll lasts all day today but at the same time one book is leading by a lot so I think it would be safe to assume it’s gonna win either way so I’m good with either announcing the winner now or waiting until tonight/tomorrow morning.

It totally up to you just want to make sure we give people time to get the copy as well. I do agree she needs to create questions in the one thread instead of creating new topics!
Yes, I agree, she can't create threads on her own. Actually, I think the QOTD thread was deleted when a bunch of other topics were deleted a while ago. I just sent a follow up post to V's:)
The poll for October has been made. I did make a fair warning about one of the books its called The Troop.. very graphic content, not for someone how has a weak stomach. Just want to put this out there that, it's not everyone's typical go to is how I am going to put this.

Also how many times has A Good Girl's Guide to Murder won? I forget what the rule is for how many times a book can win...XD

If it's won the poll more than twice it can no longer be suggested for at least 7 months after.

Hello ladies! I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a family emergency going on and I am not going to say what’s going on in this thread but if you need me please feel free to message me. If you see me reading my book it’s my way of taking time away/grieving so if I don’t post then you know why.
Thanks for letting us know, V, please take all of the time you need. I'm so sorry and I just want to let you know that I'll be praying for you and for your family :(
Well ladies... I am back to helping the group.. This family emergency went down hill quick as a result which led to my grandma passing away this morning. She is not suffering anymore and she is in heaven but I cried this morning and I am going to miss her tremendously but whole family is torn.
Glad I also checked... So we do have a problem. On October's BOTM A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is winning by a long shot, but this book has already won more than twice for BOTM's.... how do we want to go about this?
Haha, that's so goofy that it's so popular. I think it's okay if it wins again- as long as it's the most popular book, why not? XD I'm up for other opinions too though:)
Thank you Catherine! I was hoping to give another book a fair chance but I think it’s too late to remove it unless we make a whole new poll.
:D
That's true; so we'll just keep the poll for this month, and then just not let GGGTM be suggested for a while:)

I think from now on we need to let people know that they should check the previous BOTM thread before nominating a book so that books don’t get nominated so often if they’ve already won recently no?
Maybe make it so that if the book they’re thinking of nominating has been the BOTM less than 4?5?6? months ago we have to wait until at least the minimum months has passed :) what do you guys think? Did that make sense?
Because A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was BOTM in June so it has been 3 months, so how soon is it too soon?

That's a good idea! I'm thinking either 4 or 6 months, so that it can fit evenly in a year. Since AGGGTM has already been on the poll though, I think it's fine for this month:)

Yes! I think taking a look at the group bookshelf (https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...) would be easier, though, instead of having to update the previous BOTM thread every month.

Hey, why don't we just throw together a really simple spooky-themed fall challenge for the month of October? Then we can make a more thankfulness/cozy-themed winter challenge for November/December. Here's the link to the doc from before: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s...
Instead of prompts, we can do what one of our members suggested- read a book that starts with each of the letters in OCTOBER or something. Once you complete all of the letters, extra points, if you read a spooky book, just a small bump (maybe +2 points).

Awesome! Tuva just messaged me some additional ideas that we could use for a fall challenge. This is me copying and pasting her message:
"✩ Gothic challenge with team names after the biggest authors and their works with a tasty snack in connection to said works, for example:
Dracula's red velvet cake
Headless Horseman pumpkin pie (cake pops could also be really funny)
Jekyll & Hyde marble cake
Poe’s Raven Dark Chocolate Tart
Dorian Gray's earl grey cake
Moreau's mutant mince pie
✩ Fall sweet treat challenge (like last year)
Caramel apple cookies
Brown sugar maple cookies
Choco hazelnut cookies
Chai sugar cookies
✩ Cozy hot beverage challenge
Hot mulled apple cider
Orange hot chocolate
Salted caramel mocha
Créme brulee latte"
I really like the first one especially. What do y'all think? And should we stick with the acrostic for prompts, or come up with separate ones?

(And oops I forgot to send out a broadcast with the BOTM poll for September *slaps forehead* Sorry about that! :/)
Since October is quickly approaching, I went ahead with Tuva's first idea and added some prompts. I'll post signups tomorrow, but they'll be open for at least a week. We can still add prompts as long as it's before October 1st:)
I am good with this. Sorry I have been super busy and haven’t had much time to read but got a late night reading in tonight so I’m hoping that life starts slowing down so I can help out more!
I can help keep track of the points :)
What are we going to do about all of the teams as there are more than 4 teams and only 4 mods? Do we just select whoever wants to team captain?

Thank you so much, Ana!
Tuva is going to be team captain of one of them, and we'll hopefully take a volunteer for the last team. As long as she/he follows the team threads template on the doc, I think anyone can be team captain:)

Books mentioned in this topic
The Housemaid (other topics)A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (other topics)
The Island (other topics)
A Killer Came Knocking (other topics)
True Betrayals (other topics)
We can also mix it up sometimes and have two big teams or have an individual challenge instead of four teams.
It would be great if you could do BOTM, V! That's so helpful and I really appreciate it:)
