Char | 17469 comments As of August 1st, please note that Amazon is no longer allowing mobi files to be sent to your Kindle's email address. I purchased the book and emailed it to my Kindle today and it was fine.

After August 1st, if you are planning to send the book to your Kindle, please choose the epub file.

Char | 17469 comments Welcome, Duncan! Thanks for joining us!

Char | 17469 comments I'm pretty psyched about this one! I think it's my first Duncan book, if I remember correctly. Though I do own GHOSTLAND, I haven't read it yet. I'm looking forward to getting started!

Oooh, I see you rated it 5 stars, Kim! That bodes well for me. :)

I plan on rereading this one with the group. I still remember some of the characters vividly, and that's always a good sign!

This works out well for me. I've already got this book on my Kindle and I'm caught up on my book challenges.
Happy to join in and welcome the author to HA!! :)

Allan (allan23) | 32 comments I am in. Has been in my tbr list for a while so now is the time. Will be my second DR book read! Also like supporting fellow Canadiens even from Toronto lol!

Shannon | 80 comments This sounds so good and creepy! Can't wait! :)

I still think about Woom from time to time, so I'm excited to read another Duncan Ralston book, and also a little scared, lol.

Ramona Gasca | 5 comments Im excited just downloaded and ready to go!!! So excited to be in this group and to experience reading with others!! I think my excitement is showing lol

message 17: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17469 comments To be honest, I am afraid of Woom. I think it might be too extreme for me.

message 18: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17469 comments Welcome, you guys! I'm pretty sure this is going to be a fun ride for us horror lovers.

Same here! LOL!

message 20: by Anja (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anja Henriksen | 149 comments Woom is extreme yes, but not as extreme as many other stories. Loved it! I think it's way more special story-wise than it's extreme... it's a special experience to read it <3

Thanks Duncan for the special offer! jumped right into it!

Shannon Marie | 4 comments I’ve read a bunch of Duncan’s work, including Woom, which is my first extreme horror and my first by him.

The Midwives just hits different (or at least it did for me).
It’s my favorite of his and it’s probably in my Top 10 favorites of all time…

You all are going to love it! Everyone I’ve recommended it to, has raved about it. ❤️

I can’t wait to see what you all think!

message 22: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17469 comments I can't wait either! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Shannon. :)

Aaron B | 89 comments I'm looking forward to The Midwives, particularly after reading the author recommendations from the previous member's posts. Best wishes.

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 426 comments I decided to buy this from Audible.

message 25: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17469 comments Oooh, I didn't realize there was an audio! That might be helpful as I'm participating in 2 group reads this month.

Duncan Ralston (userbits) | 124 comments Hey, all! Thanks for having me! Hope you enjoy reading this one. It's actually the first novel I'd ever completed, though I rewrote it almost entirely for the release nearly 10 years later. It's also my mom's favorite of my books, so it holds a special place in my dark heart. (And yes, she's read Woom, despite my warnings.) 😂

Thank you for hosting, Char and Kimberly! Any questions about literally anything, I'll do my best to answer them!

If it makes you feel any better, I grew up half in the Peterborough area. :D

Shainlock | 290 comments I loved Ghostland so much that I read it all at once. Then i went and read the prequel. I read it again when the next in the series came out to prepare. I loved these. I haven’t read the third even though I pre-ordered it. I have read Woom, and a collection of stories, and a few other things. Woom was the last thing I read. I don’t read these type either. I’m wondering if Midwives will be anything like it, or will it be less extreme? I love the stuff around Ghostland level horror. :)

Having read both Ghostland and Midwives, I think you'll like this one in that respect.

Shainlock | 290 comments Thanks. I have had this one and Salvage a while.

message 32: by Shainlock (new) - added it

Shainlock | 290 comments Glad you’re here, Duncan. No matter what you’re writing, there is always something about the story that grabs a person. I have trouble putting your books down until they are finished. I love that your mom has a favorite and she read them all. Writing’s an art and artists have to find where they belong, I suppose. Excited for this GR.

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 426 comments I loved Salvage! I'm looking for ward to listening to Midwives.

Only 2 reads? Ha. I foolishly joined 6 groups/book clubs that all read at least 1 book/month. Luckily I have an easy excuse to bow out when there's no audiobook available, but my reading (listening) dance card is really full! I probably will change my Audible back to Gold from Silver. I already use Libby whenever possible & max out my 15 holds limit most of the time. It's a fun addiction.

SALVAGE was my first book by Duncan--loved it!

message 36: by Shainlock (new) - added it

Shainlock | 290 comments It sounds like a good creepy book to me, too. (Salvage)
Ian—some ppl can fly through 6 books in no time. It can depend on the person and it can depend on the books, too, huh?! However many… good luck! I hope they are great ones!

Charlene (Char)🍁☕️📚 | 67 comments Hi everyone ! I was able to purchase my copy today ! Thank you so much Duncan for the discount it’s greatly appreciated. I can’t wait to read this book (:

Thank you kindly! I'd say it's on par with the Ghostland books for violence and gore, though there are a few scenes that are darker.

Thank you, Ian! I hope you enjoy this one. There are a few parallels with Salvage. I always looked at these two books sort of as siblings.

Char | 17469 comments Hi Char! Glad to see you with us again!

Jerri (jeanne25) One of my favorite things about Ralston is his ability to write in differing styles. You couldn't get bored even if you tried. Many authors these days are one sided but there are many facets to Ralston's writing. Midwives, Woom and Gross Out are my personal favorites to date. My Ralston Kindle collection is at 13 books currently - all read and loved.

message 44: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17469 comments I'm so happy to see you here, LTJ!

I am participating in at least 2 reads right now, this one and Steve Kozeniewski's. I tossed a coin to see which I would read first and Steve's won. As soon as I'm done with that one, I'll be here too. :)

LTJ (ltj81) | 2005 comments @Char: Thanks for the kind words, my friend! LoL yeah, I'm finishing up a final July group read then have 6 group reads in August. It'll help push me to read more of these amazing novels and keep at it to end the summer on a high note!

LoL very cool you tossed a coin to decide but did you toss a coin for the Witcher? :-P
