Anita Pomerantz | 9298 comments This year I actually have read three of these which might be a record for me, lol: The Colony (loved), The Trees (not a fan), and Oh William! (makes my heart sing).

I am THRILLED to see an Elizabeth Strout book make the list as she is my favorite author!!

Not sure which additional ones I will read, but definitely several.

Theresa | 15655 comments Agree with you on Strout - delighted to see her and especiallly Oh William! on the list.

Not read any of others or even heard of most. Probably won't read many of them either. Booker and I have a long fraught history. I will just campaign for Strout and Oh William!.

Booknblues | 12148 comments Many of these, I've seen predicted, but there were a few that didn't ring any bells.

I have actually read one, Small Things Like These and I gave it a 5 star. Theresa, I think you would like it and it is perfect timing as it is a Christmas book. Irish setting, small community. Lovely. I doubt it will win as it is very short, which was why I was surprised to see it on the list.

I hadn't heard of After Sappho: A Novel and it seems that it is perfect for August's tag.

The Colony, Glory, Maps of our Spectacular Bodies, The Trees, Oh, William and Trust, I've seen predicted.

Nightcrawling has been on my radar, but I'm surprised to see it .

Booth has been on my radar as well, but also surprised.

Case Study, Treacle Walker and The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida are new to me.

I'm going to ponder this as I decided I am going to only read those which appeal to me. I've found that I've read too many for their supposed merit rather than my enjoyment, so I'll skip those.

Jen K | 3159 comments I'm super excited to see Glory on the list. I haven't read it yet but I've been desperate to read soon. I also have Oh William! and The Trees on the soon soon plan.

On my holds list at the library are Nightcrawling, Trust and Booth. Maybe they could be moved up a bit faster.

The others will require more research.

Well...you know me and Christmas....

The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida might need to be considered... and it could prove a good option for my Feminerdy Book Club.

Anita Pomerantz | 9298 comments After Sappho is so on point for the tag that I had to order it from Book Depository. Sigh. It isn't released here until January (eye roll).

I just looked for Seven Moons.... not paying $35 for the hardcover thanks. Not in NYPL -- and NYC has the largest Sri Lankan community in the US...

Maybe the nomination will push US publisher to issue it in ebook at least.

Joy D | 10186 comments I am excited about this list!

I've read three - Small Things Like These, Oh William, and Trust. Four stars for the first two and three for the third (but I can see why it was nominated.)

I can get my hands on most of these. Out of my predictions, I got four, which I feel pretty good about for no particular reason lol.

For those looking to get the ones not yet released in the US (Case Study, After Sappho, and Seven Moons), you can order them from Book Depository UK with free shipping to the US.

Theresa, on Book Depository, Seven Moons is $18 for the hardcopy (no other format is available).

I have been requesting books from my library in anticipation that they would be on the list. Just got to the top of the waiting list for Booth.

I own a copy of The Colony (which some of my friends have loved) and Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies (used an audio credit).

So excited the Percival Everett is on the list - he is one of my favorite authors.

Nicole D. | 1573 comments A note about Maps: I started it on audio and quickly determined (for me at least) it's going to better in print. My 2 cents.

I'll be attempting most of these, but probably will DNF at least two. No idea which two, it's just my track record. I don't think After Sappho is for me, (vignettes) but would love to get my hands on Seven Moons. I wrote to the publicist today ... I'm sure I'm her priority LOL

Nicole D. | 1573 comments and The Colony is my favorite book of the year so far.

Theresa | 15655 comments Thanks for Book Depository tip. I might wait and see what Feminerdy Book Clubs reaction is to my suggestion. If interested in it as a furure read, I will wait.

I appreciate the tip, but I already own a copy of the audio, so will give it a try. If it doesn't work I can always eventually get a physical copy from my library.

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments I enjoyed Maps as an audiobook, but I think it might have been a better read than listen.

I’m excited about the list so far- surprised to see Booth, and I didn’t care for Trust, but of the eight I’ve read so far, I’ve enjoyed most.

Colony is also in my top five for the year so far- it’s wonderful.

And I’m excited to see Oh William- I bought it right after it came out, and haven’t read it yet- plan to get to it tonight.

I’m going to say I’m very happy that To Paradise didn’t make it- I liked it, but it’s not a Booker book to me.

Joy - you will be pleased to know that your tip on Book Depository and The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida wore me down and I have ordered it. I have a birthday next month and decided it was time to indulge in some book buying - hardcovers mostly from a local Indie, but also this one and some ebooks. Helped along by having some accumulated rewards on my cc.

The cover completely seduced me too.

It will be winging its way to me soon.

message 17: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10186 comments Awesome! I ordered it too, Theresa.

message 18: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12148 comments While The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida sounds really good to me, I will await your reviews to make a decision.

KateNZ | 4103 comments I haven’t read any of them yet but I’ve bought ‘The Colony’ to start me off. Happy happy!

I really hope you like it. Just a forewarning, the book is a slow burn, but honestly, it's worth just taking your time and watching the characters unfold . . .I teetered between 4 and 5 stars, but I think it is a very strong contender. I will be shocked and disappointed if it doesn't make the shortlist.

message 21: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10186 comments I like a slow burn so that's a good sign. I have a copy of The Colony and hope to start it soon. I've heard mostly good things about it.

message 22: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12148 comments I was thinking of maybe starting with The Colony as I'm not in the mood for Nightcrawling or The Trees.

I'm putting off Oh William, because I haven't read the other Lucy Barton books and I'm mulling over if I want to read either Booth or Glory.

message 23: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments It is rare that I have read any of the Booker books, but I just got The Trees from the library, so this time I will have one that I read.

message 24: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4103 comments I like a slow burn too. Just need some reading hours in my day!
