Dear Curiosities,

I sincerely beg your pardon for not having posted the reading schedule on Great Expectations earlier, but I was under the impression that I had done it already when I mirthfully started into my holidays.

But better late than never ... so here it is:

04/08 – 10/08 Chp. 1-4
11/08 – 17/08 Chp. 5-7
18/08 – 24/08 Chp. 8-10
25/08 – 31/08 Chp. 11-13
01/09 – 06/09 Chp. 14-17
07/09 – 14/09 Chp. 18-19
15/09 – 21/09 Chp. 20-22
22/09 – 28/09 Chp. 23-26
29/09 – 05/10 Chp. 27-29
06/10 – 12/10 Chp. 30-33
13/10 – 19/10 Chp. 34-37
20/10 – 26-10 Chp. 38-39
27/10 – 02/11 Chp. 40-42
03/11 – 09/11 Chp. 43-48
10/11 – 16/11 Chp. 49-52
17/11 – 23/11 Chp. 53-56
24/11 – 30/11 Chp. 57-59

Mary Lou | 2701 comments I'll probably be sitting this one out. I love Great Expectations, but need a break to get some other books off my shelves and under my belt. But, who knows? I may not be able to resist the call of an old friend to come sit on the porch and visit for a spell. After TOTC, hanging out with the Wemmicks, Joe, and Biddy seems like a refreshing change. Hmm... I'm already rethinking my decision... Well, if you don't hear from me, don't be surprised, but we'll see how it goes.

This might be one of my favourites, so obviously I'm joining again.
There might be a blib in the last installment(s) though. It says chapter 53-56 and then 54-59. I am all for re-reading, but to re-read a couple of chapters right after reading them might be a bit much ;-)

John (jdourg) | 1219 comments I have not kept up with things as much as I would like to, but I really wish to make this a successful read for myself. I experienced this book in high school. It was a good class and we did a close reading. I would like to see how my impressions of the story have changed or not changed 43 years later.

Hi John

We’ll see. My bet is this time you will discover a new book.

Thanks, Jantine: I corrected the blunderous blib you pointed out.

Chamomile Abigail | 16 comments I’m really excited to begin Great Expectations! I’ll be in school throughout the reading, so I may be a bit inconsistent in my postings. However, I’ll make sure to catch up on weekends if I fall behind. :) I look forward to hearing others insights and opinions on the book!

John (jdourg) | 1219 comments I have the Barnes & Noble Classics edition of Great Expectations. The introduction to the book was written Radhika Jones. Some of you may recognize her name as the current editor of Vanity Fair magazine.

She wrote the introduction before her Vanity Fair job, and it looks like at the time she had completed her doctorate in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia.

It was a lengthier introduction than I expected, but it was excellent. A nice overview that placed the book in the context of Dickens’ life and work up to that point.

Jenn Estepp (quietjenn) | 5 comments I am hoping to participate in this one! I fell a bit behind on Little Dorrit (although I did finish it and ultimately went back and skimmed all the discussions) and skipped A Tale of Two Cities, since I read that last year. But am very much looking forward to revisiting this one, which I've read twice before, but both times in school (high school and college) many proverbial moons ago.
