So next year let's pretend we're vital workers (actually insurance executives count as that), who make chocolates to match each book, and we can point out that two of our members have known each other since before they were born.

Well she did clearly say they'd had several complaints re that. As GY pointed out it was actually due to their charitable status which does say they should focus on reading in UK

Odds on the Chair:- calling his English teacher on to the stage?
- inviting each other judge to make a speech?
- talking about all 13 books for 10 minutes?
To be fair if I was there I'd think this was fine. But if they are telling people to join online at 7pm to hear an announcement it isn't supposed to be 7.30.
Stewart pointed out on Twitter than at least one publisher has jumped the gun and congratulated their author for getting on the shortlist.
Little to no chance a protestor parachutes in to spice things up, I guess...There should be a roving gang of authors who've missed out on the prize... Maybe led by Ali Smith?
