My name is Kvothe.

Adrift, penniless, and alone, he travels to Vintas, where he quickly becomes entangled in the politics of courtly society. While attempting to curry favor with a powerful noble, Kvothe uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who (or what) is waylaying travelers on the King's Road.

All the while, Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe is put on trial by the legendary Adem mercenaries, is forced to reclaim the honor of the Edema Ruh, and travels into the Fae realm. There he meets Felurian, the faerie woman no man can resist, and who no man has ever survived ... until Kvothe.

In The Wise Man's Fear, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Chapter 1 -5 : (view spoiler)[Oh how I missed Kvothe and Bast's bickering and the Chronicler feeling lost among it all lol. As exciting as Kvothe's university life really is I am so desperate to find out why he was expelled that I just get frustrated at times but still....the book had a strong start. Let's go read what plans does Kvothe have up his sleeve to be able to pay his tuitions. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 6 - 10 : (view spoiler)[Ambrose is so wicked, glad that Fela had the tile that Kvothe could trade his with. But Kvothe under that alchemy was sure fun lol, i loved his unhibited nature. Denna’s interactions with him always leave me a bit annoyed though because I don’t understand why he is so taken with her. Iike him much more with Fela. I hope Devi doesn’t land him in trouble with whatever she is planning (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11 - 20 : (view spoiler)[Elodin's class is so interesting! I love how he makes the students understand difficult concepts practically, he also made Lorren give Kvothe access to the archives so that was a win. I wonder if the books he made all of them read had a purpose. Also, I am scared for Kvothe because it seems like he forgets everything that matters when it comes to Denna and takes huge risks and still Denna doesn't realise his feelings (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 21 - 30 : (view spoiler)[OH Devi got scary in this one but I understand why, she has a temper and being accused of such a serious crime and linking it to her reason for expulsion made her mad. I still doubt that Ambrose is the one behind the malfeasance against Kvothe, I dont know why I just can't trust Denna fully, it often seems to me like she takes advantage of Kvothe, maybe I am just too biased or something. Chapter 31 - 40 : (view spoiler)[At times, I get so frustrated by the level of details in this book but I also feel like this is what makes the book so fascinating, all the meticulous details about every little thing makes it that much easier to get lost in Kvothe's world. I wonder why Denna wanted to meet, maybe her patron got in touch? Kvothe is so hopelessly in love with her lol. I like Kvothe's group of friends the best, they are amazing ngl (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 41 - 50 : (view spoiler)[Kvothe is a genius. I keep marvelling at how easily he invents new things and explains it to the audience. I am also excited to see his life outside the university, it's not like I dont like hearing about his classes and time at the library but the chance of something new, in a new city AND with a patron sure sounds nice. Chapter 51 - 60 : (view spoiler)[I am soo liking this segment of the book, it is a new and exciting and I am enjoying Kvothe trying to traverse the politics of the court, not too much was revealed about Bendon so I am still not sure whether he is going to play a bigger role in the future. Not surprised about Caudicus at alll but the Maer seems a bit childish to me at times. No good can come from Kvothe helping him court the lady I feel. (hide spoiler)]

We should have started this sooner, it is getting a bit confusingt= to keep track of so much information and remembering what happened in the first book.

(view spoiler)[I didn't realise who Nina was for a moment when she came to meet Kvothe but then slowly the memory returned. I don't thinK Denna is malicious any way but yes, I do like Kvothe better without her. I am amazed by how intelligent he is and his practical knowledge knows no bounds. I was excited to see how he fares on his own at a new place and under a patron at that, but Denna made an appearance here as well which was slightly annoying. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 61 - 70 : (view spoiler)[ANDDD what happened is exactly what I feared, Kvothe is getting distracted from his purpose because of Denna and I realise Denna might have her own reasons but I still don't like her being so secretive with Kvothe when he is always so forthcoming with everything. I was afraid for a second there that Maer would put him in jail but Stapes came at the right moment. I wonder where Caucidus has run off to (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 71 - 80 : (view spoiler)[I strongly suspect that Caudicus might be Denna's patron......her historian remark clicked something in my head. Plus she said that he might be presenting the song to Maer himself so it IS possible. Kvothe and her fight was u g l y, not proud of some of the stuff Kvothe spouted honestly. I am not a fan of the current sub plot, Kvothe going to apprehend those bandits, I don't understand what is to come of it (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 81 - 100 : (view spoiler)[I AM SO DAMN ANNOYED!!!!????? What even happened to the author suddenly? It seems like he just ran out of ideas to further the story and went with the first senseless idea that popped up in his head. I am very disappointed. This faerie realm and all the *adult* content is exactly what I DIDN'T expect in this book and it wasn't even like it fitted in with the plot up until now, it's just filling up the pages ngl. I am glad that I wasn't the only one weirded out by these turn of events. All the adult rated scenes didn't make sense at all in this book. Even though it's fantasy, I was still bummed about so much adult content involving a 16 year old. Kvothe definitely seems older but in the end, that's the official age author went with so maybe he should have been a bit more careful.

We are so close to the end now and it seems like there was only a handful of substantial information in the whole 994 pages of this bulky book. I'd say I am a lot disappointed in the book as well as the author himself and I'd have probably DNFed it if not for the amount of time I invested getting to this point in the story. I may not read the third part thoufh whenever it is released.

Chapter 101 - 112 : (view spoiler)[ Kvothe got out of the faerie land only to travel with Tempi instead of returning to his patron…I don’t know if I am the only one who found that stupid. FINALLY, there was a little information about chandrian which had raised my hopes that the book would move forward in a desired direction but nope, the author keeps losing track. I am honestly getting annoyed by the level of unnecessary details we are made to go through just for a few bits of information pertaining to the important topic (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 113 - 124 : (view spoiler)[ Damn why does he just not go away and why is there so much focus on sex in this book suddenly. I am so confused about what was supposed to happen and what is actually happening. I just want to know more about Chandrians and be done with it instead of whatever the hell the author is going on about. I do find Adem interesting in themselves but not so much that the author abandoned the whole plot in their favour. Are we EVER going to find out what made Kvothe run away or is this just going to go on forever? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The part where he returns with Tempi to the Adem and learns Lethali is surely interesting in itself but WHY ffs, I don't understand why the author needed to be so brash in putting his point across. The intimacy thing was well understood in the first instance yet we get to read about what the Adem considered intimate and what not over and over again. I still dont understand what purpose did Penthe's part serve? It feels like we are not progressing in the story at all and it's frustrating as hell (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 125 – 136 : (view spoiler)[The whole discussion between Penthe and Kvothe was ridiculous ngl, please tell me just how did it relate with the story at any point? I am just reading this for the sake of it now. I have never been more disappointed in a book I picked up so excitedly. The journey after he left the Ademre was actually decent enough, I like learning about Edema Ruh but my mood is so spoiled by now that I am not enjoying it as much (hide spoiler)]

Not even Kvothe’s “things are about to get dark again” is enticing enough to even make me consider doing that.
