Christina | 4293 comments I'm in no hurry to read these kindle freebies :) so anytime that suits you. Thanks !

message 302: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I try to do buddy reads but it limits the choice of books and the updates can be a little tiring but from here on I'll try to read buddy only:)

message 303: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments Rachel, Friday is perfect! Do you want to set up the thread? Christina, any time probably next week? Does that work for you?

message 304: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Gunter Yep I'll sort it now :)

message 305: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Gunter Here is the thread, I've asked for it to be reset :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Berit | 872 comments Thanks! I've been a bit lazy today, but seen all the reading you guys are doing, is motivating me! I signed up for Kindle unlimited, today and I bought myself a new iPad Mini and case. I thought I give this subscription service a try, I think it is only in the states and maybe Canada. Hot time to stop shopping and start reading ;-)

We have it in the UK too. I've read quite a few off it. :)

I did a kindle-unlimited read-athon in october, think I got to 160 books within the month.

message 309: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments 160 =o

message 310: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments That's a lot of books! Good for you though! Will there be any other team challenges?

message 311: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I really like the team challenges over individual ones so I hope there's more =D

message 312: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments I feel the same way! Team challenges are much better than individual ones, I realize there is always a problem with participation, but I think that's a risk I'm willing to take :-)

message 313: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments I think participation wasn't really a problem this time.

message 314: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments Well, definitely not on this team! Although I've been busy buying stuff today instead of reading, sorry! I do love to shop :-) I did buy and download a bunch of books, now I need to start reading, instead of spending money, that I really do not have! Finally well I was posting this, my youngest son came in my room to ask me if he could download something for $10, of course I said yes!

message 315: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments Haha! That always happens. For me, I go to the store intending to buy one thing and end up buying lots more. Don't worry about it, we're doing great.

message 316: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments Berit are you free to read Three Little Words tomorrow/Wednesday? Or did you mean you were free the week after this one? Thanks!

message 317: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I just think it's an easy one to finish in one seating ;)

message 318: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments Oh I just stumbled on an existing buddy thread for it so I guess we can start posting thoughts whenever we are ready!

We have had problems with participation in team challenge before. That's why we asked people to sign up as either 'serious' or 'just for fun', and then asked everybody to comment to say they were ready. It's really difficult when people don't show up! Participation has been about 98% in this challenge though so we've done really well ☺

Yep, my 4-year-old had a whale of a time! He thought it was brilliant that he got to pick 3 or 4 new books to read on kindle unlimited every night!

They do seem to be good for motivation ☺

message 323: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments Christina, that is fine, it is a really short book. I was thinking of reading it when it was a buddy read then, but other things got in the way. Wednesday is fabulous! Although come to think of it your Wednesday is my Tuesday, so I will try to get to it on Tuesday ;-)

message 324: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments Last night I was busy looking at all the fabulous books I could get with my new subscription, you can have 10 at a time, and then return them for more. A lot of books I've never heard of before, so I had to do some digging, found quite a few I think I will like that I never heard of before.. This morning I have time I will read, read, and read, yesterday was kind of a waste :-)

message 325: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I ended up passing out 10pm (so early T__T) but I managed to finish it this evening.. haha

message 326: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments @Sarah
Your son's a budding reader! Like mother like son ;)

message 327: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
He loves books, the kindle text-to-speech comes in handy because he can use it to read them by himself. Gets annoying when I want to read though ☺

message 328: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments I would be so grateful for that! Out of my three kids only one, my daughter, is a reader. My boys would rather be playing video games or playing sports. My oldest son does spend a lot of time reading and writing music reviews and rating baseball stats. I can't complain he is an amazing student, so something is working ;-)

Neither of my brother's ever really read anything as kids, and they don't read now either. My dad reads a lot though, and so did my gran until she couldn't see anymore.

message 330: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments My brothers don't really either. My parents are huge readers, my mother was an English teacher. I just can't imagine my life without books in it :-)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
I have never known my mother to read a book. She occasionally reads a picture book to my little boy, but the last real book she read was when she was at school.

message 332: by Markus (new)

Markus Everybody in my family reads except my father. I used to be home with my mother when I was younger so I learnt how to read when I was 3.

message 333: by phoebe (new)

phoebe (phoebecarrazco) | 538 comments Hey guys sorry I haven't been very active lately, I have been reading though! I've read about four books since my last review I've just been busy with school work :( They will be posted soon this week though! Sorry for the all the trouble!

message 334: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments No problem! I'm glad you were reading :-) just post them when you can, as long as it's in March ;-) I read to my kids all the time when they were little, my oldest son was off to a very good start, but it fizzled out. My daughter is the only one who really reads, but nothing like all of you :-)

message 335: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I hated reading when I was at school (I used study guides for assigned readings...yeah I know) but now I love it :)

message 336: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments I always hated school assigned reading :-) I did the same thing , I basically cheated ;-)

message 337: by Christina (last edited Mar 17, 2015 06:52AM) (new)

Christina | 4293 comments Haha maybe that's the norm!

One of my assigned readings was The Giver by Lois Lowry. And that book is so short! I read it in a few hours last year lol (compared to a decade ago with the study guides)

I always finished my school books way ahead of everybody else. it drove me nuts to just stop reading after a couple of chapters!

message 339: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments I bet you did well at English class ;) they assigned like a chapter a night. It was a lot to ask of me back in the day hahaha

message 340: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
The teacher got annoyed because when they asked me to read in class I never knew which chapter they were on. I ended up reading all the books multiple times because of it.

message 341: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4293 comments Teachers don't know what to do with kids who don't read and kids who read too much xD

message 342: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Pretty much!

message 343: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments My problem was I didn't like being told what to read or what to do for that matter :-)

School sucks.

message 345: by phoebe (new)

phoebe (phoebecarrazco) | 538 comments Haha yes I agree

message 346: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments I don't mind reading at all, I love it, but my school only assigns classics and those aren't as fun. I did not finish Great Expectations. If they assigned modern books I'd probably get through them so much faster.

message 347: by Berit (new)

Berit | 872 comments That is the problem I have with school reading, if you would like to get kids to learn to love to read don't have them read the classics!

message 348: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
the main ones that I remember reading are The Crucible by Arthur Miller & To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee , they weren't bad.

message 349: by Elizabeth Emily (new)

Elizabeth Emily Browne (snakesandladderrs) | 2186 comments Mine were blood brothers and Lord of the flies :/ I really enjoyed blood brothers!

message 350: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments Cursive wasn't bad and lord of the flies was just weird!
