How do you find out if the book you’ve requested has been added?

Do you just have to search for it regularly every so often or do you get a notification?

The vast majority of the time, whoever fulfills the request will respond to your thread, and you'll get a notification. Please note that due to changes in who can add books, there is currently a very high volume of requests. Feel free to bump up your original post every couple of days.
Edit: It is sometimes, perhaps counterintuitively, faster to not bump your post, as more librarians are likely to click on a thread with one post than on one with multiple posts, as threads with multiple posts are more likely to have been addressed already. So that's worth bearing in mind as well.

If and only if you are following your own thread. This is not automatic, and not everyone who posts a thread thinks to do this.

Oh, didn't realise this—mine is automatic, though I have to manually set every thread to send only notifications rather than emails. But it's also been ages since I poked around in Settings! Thank you for clarifying.
Thanks for the answers! I'm not sure about this update, I've added quite a few books during my time here because I like to read older books in my native language. This makes it feel a lot harder
