It's been a while since I first read this book, and I had honestly forgotten just how much I disliked Victor lol. He's unbearable right from the start. And of course, I find it fascinating that the "monster" is the one who chooses not to eat animals:

"I do not destroy the lamb and the kid, to glut my appetite; acorns and berries afford me sufficient nourishment."

If "monsters" can do it, why can't the average human make this connection!

Ren | 13 comments It's been a few months since I read it, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I thought it was still very good and didn't feel too dated for being such an old book. It's a classic for a reason! I just didn't care for the letters as a framing device for the story, I didn't think that added much to the story. Definitely have mixed feelings about Victor and the monster both.

Gayle Gordon (gaylesstuff) | 22 comments Yeah I pretty much thought they were all a bunch of elitist prigs, except the monster. There were many negative mentions of other people being common, poor, unattractive. These didn't just come from Victor, but even Elizabeth got in a dig on another girl, calling her ugly. Victor also didn't learn any lessons. He was completely irresponsible for his creation from the start and even at the end only wanted to kill him instead of help him. He should have just gone ahead and created the female monster. It was stupid of him to think the monster would only take his revenge out on him instead of his family. He had already destroyed William and Justine.

Marcus | 4 comments A classic book, an amazing achievement for a teenager. I can’t agree that Victor should create a female monster. He has caused enough harm with his meddling, we already have one confused sentient life and shouldn’t make another.
