I read Basil of Baker Street, which fits the following prompts:
6- cover has 4+ colors
13- mystery with 3+ clues
20- read as an audiobook
26- character's name in title
66- animated movie/show adaptation (The Great Mouse Detective)
78- direct link to a Disney movie (The Great Mouse Detective)
@Dana Did you like Amari and the Night Brothers? I have it on my TBR! I've read Midnight Without a Moon, and it would definitely be a good fit for task 24.

I read [book:Basil of..."
Yes, I gave it 5 stars! For Amari, I mean. I noted in the task spreadsheet for which categories it may fit in, so you can definitely read it.

Not sure how to answer this.
Maybe a manga that features a middle-grade protagonist.
@Tanaya @Kadi Any help with this question?

Hope you are ok with that.

I'll try to finish category 8 by myself because I understood we get extra points or something, if I remember correctly.
But if anyone wants to read anything for these tasks 38, 39 and 40, please let me know.

I just finished The One and Only Ivan for task #1.

A book from the same series as a book read by another team member for another task

That sounds like a great idea.
We'll do it like this, then. :)

Captain Grey
11- protagonist receives secret anonymous message (he sends/receives secret notes via a pigeon)
20- read on audiobook
26- character's name in title
55- a character dies (multiple characters including the protagonist's father die)
85- set in a time/place without electricity (set in 1783)
Jukebox
I read this thinking it would fit task 96, a book where a character time travels to two different points in time, but they travel to more than two points in time in Jukebox. @Tanaya Can you confirm with Kadi whether it's specifically two or if more than two is okay?
If not it will still complete task 6 for a cover with 4 or more colors.
I'm also reading Intruders at Rivermead Manor: A Kit Mystery, which will definitely work for task 71 but will probably fit some others too. I'll update when I've finished it!

I might be able to read for category 4. I know several books that have been adapted into musicals and ones that include diary entries that I could read. I also have Set Me Free (sign language) checked out from the library right now, read Isla to Island (Spanish/English) yesterday, and will likely read at least one more audiobook before the end of the month.

I also started Eliza Bing Is (Not) a Big, Fat Quitter. The main character takes taekwondo classes, so it will fulfill task 43 for a protagonist that learns a combat sport.

1) How do we determine what manga counts as middle grade? Japanese publishing is different than American, and I can't find any of the manga I have access to through the library on the AR Book Find website, even popular ones like Sailor Moon.
2) For task 96, can the characters travel to more than two different points in time? Or does it need to be exactly two? I read Jukebox, and the characters travel from the present to 1929, 1970, 1968, 1971, 1982, and more.
3) For task 33, does the entire book need to be set in the 1980s? I have a book that uses dual timelines, so it's partially set in the present day and partially in 1989.
Sorry to make more work for you!

I've been out of town for 3 days but I'm back now and want to finish 2 more books.
Unfortunately we are on the penultimate place :(.
We have to finish one category.
@Tiffany Until we find out if Jukebox counts for task 96, we will consider it for 6, is that okay?
We will change it later if it counts.

I’m planning on reading for category 2, and if anyone else wants to take a category to get us some bonus points feel free. We can also get bonus points by having just 2 people complete one category, so if anyone wants to team up for a category we can do that too. @Dana you are planning on reading for task 2, right? I think I will try to read for task 3, that way we will get bonus points for 2 team members completing one category. Could everyone drop a comment with the names of the protagonists from the books you have read, to make it a bit easier to find something to read for this task?

Names of protagonists on my side:
Amari (Amari and the night brothers)
Jackson (Crenshaw)
Rose Lee (Midnight without a moon)
Olivia (Small Spaces)
Xar and Wish (The Wizards of Once)

Here is the answer to your doubts . So I’m assuming anyone who’s wanting to read manga for the challenge is already a manga reader and will understand the terminology I’m about to use here.
Anything labelled shonen or shojo is fine for the challenge as it’s aimed towards the same ages as MG and MG+ books. Anything labelled seinen or josei does not count as they range from YA to adult.
If any team member has specific manga titles in mind and are uncertain about whether they’d count they can privately message me the titles or share them with their team captain to ask me about here and I’ll give an answer for each specific one.
2. More than two is fine. So that book counts!
3. It’s the entire book so that book wouldn’t count. It can be set over several years in the 1980s but the present day setting is what makes that specific book not count.

Bob by Wendy Mass for name in the title (and I'll see for what else).
The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris for Magic in the title.
The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett for a cover with blue and red/orange.
The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs for an orphan protagonist.
George's Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy Hawking for an astronaut on the cover.

Thanks so much! I'm so glad Jukebox will count for the time travel task! And I'm actually reading another book now that is set entirely in the 1980s, so I've got that one covered anyway. I'll check if the other book will fit another task. And I figured shonen/shojo manga is what would qualify, but I wanted to check before reading anything that wouldn't count. :)

Basil (Basil of Baker Street)

Adding Lewis Barnavelt from The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs.

But I think we can do this, let's finish some categories for extra points and beat their asses! :D (Just some competitive vibe).
I still think we should make a document with all the tasks, assign a colour for each of us (can I be red? :D) and write in all the sugestions for each task that comes to our mind.
That way we can each chose what to read and for what task and organize better.
I will try creating one now in Google Docs.
Also, does anyone have recs for tasks 39 and 40?

@Tanaya It says you don't accept messages, can you please give me your email so I can send you the link?
Thanks!

Hi Grace,
It is accepteed ;).

The goodreads app doesn't let me add book links, so later when I'm on the computer I can give you some suggestions for tasks 39 and 40.
I finished both Moonwalking and Sugar and Spite last night, and I've started Tuck Everlasting for 16, adapted into a play or musical.

Was anyone planning on reading for task 45, a book with a protagonist who is bullied? I just finished a book that would work for this task, but if someone else is reading for it it would also work for task 6.
Next I’m planning on reading The Silver Chair for task 9.

I finished Tuck Everlasting and added it to the tracking sheet.
@Dana I hope it's okay I changed my color in the doc you made. My favorite color is yellow! :)
I'll add in some recommendations now because I know a lot of books that can fit for different tasks and definitely won't be able to read them all myself this month.
I also added our names by the categories we each have said we'll read for, so we don't accidentally read for a task in a category that somebody else is already reading the whole category.

1) For task 48, does the protagonist need to already know how to sail or can they learn to sail during the course of the book?
2) For task 40, does the protagonist need to actually be a delinquent or troublemaker? Or can they be perceived or stereotyped that way but misunderstood?
3) For task 73, does the book need to be a retelling of one specific fairy tale or can it incorporate elements or characters from multiple fairy tales (e.g, The Fairy-Tale Detectives, The Wishing Spell)
4) For task 74, does it have to be fairies specifically that the character doesn't believe in and then has to work with, or can it be similar beings like elves, pixies, gnomes, etc.?
Thanks again!

Also, it looks like we're in second place now!

We're actually in the third place but we still have a high chance to beat them!!
@Grace - You can fill 45 or 6, I don't plan on reading something in particular for those.
@Tiffany - I don't mind at all regarding the colour.
I wasn't sure what everyone preffered so I picked what I felt at the moment.
Sorry I've been so slow, I work from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m this week and I also was away the last weekend, but I'm planning of finishing the books I started and try to finish some more.

I am in a terrible reading slump!
I am almost done with two books so i will insert them in the spreadsheet by tomorrow.
Sorry again.

P.S. I thought I was going to read Prince Caspian for task 2 that will correspond with The Silver Chair you read for task 9.
Is that still ok?

Sorry about that!! Team Zenobia was cut off on my screen, so I didn't see their score!!

Team Morrigan Crow has 73 points and 22 tasks completed (1 category complete).
We have 59 points and 21 tasks completed.
Both Mary Poppins and Wolf teams have 53 points and 16 tasks completed.
And Amari Peters team only has 5 points and 2 tasks completed.
