Debby (da3witch) | 58 comments Does anyone know a book a Protaganist with a surname starting with a ' D' for #28?

I have a book where the protaganist has a first name that starts with 'D': The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey, the main guy's name is David.
I'm currently reading it for another readathon

I'll keep it penciled in for #86.

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) I found a book for #80, a book with a character that is younger than sixteen who drives a car or motorbike: The Car. Sounds interesting and I love Paulsen's writing. The MC starts his car journey in Cleveland, which is where I am from!

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) A few ideas:

#30 (character with amnesia) Restart
#14 (book title that is a question) What Lane? (could also possibly qualify for #24, book that explores topic of racism)

message 56: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments My book Strong Like the Sea isn't on either AR list. I am pretty sure it is MG.

message 57: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments #81 -- Hugo Cabret?
#100 -- Baby-Sitters' Club
#76 -- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe or The Horse and His Boy
#22 -- Roald Dahl's the Witches

If you don't find one, I think I have an A book for my name.

message 59: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) I found one with (more than) seven i's in the title!! Haha, it is...

Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds)

Believe it or not, classified as MG on AR!

message 60: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Ok, I don't know how I reas that as 7 letter I's!!?? Audrey, you got it with Enclopedia Brown anyway!

message 61: by Aeriell (new)

Aeriell Castleman | 204 comments Hey team! Got an update:

1.DNF's do not count- for it to fully count you have to fully read the book
2.I forgot this as well but put the authors name with the book title, I'll be addingit for me on there soon
3.I don' think a book can be for two of the same prompt and I saw one on the sheet, so unless that's a place holder for the other book.

If ya'll got any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

message 62: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Thanks for the update!

I put a Pippi book twice with a question mark as a place holder.

message 63: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Books in verse- assuming they coint?

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments Kelly wrote: "Ok, I don't know how I reas that as 7 letter I's!!?? Audrey, you got it with Enclopedia Brown anyway!"

It did say 7 originally! I counted 5 in the Encyclopedia Brown and was bummed.

Is there a minimum page requirement or just the MG requirement?
I just got an editing job of a MG book. Maybe that can count for something?

message 66: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Ideas:

#96 (character travels to two points in time): The Retake
#99 (book with an unreliable narrator): Fortunately, the Milk or Liar & Spy

It's not MG on the list, although I think it should be.

message 68: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments I just checked out Fortunately the Milk and it looks like it is LG, not MG.

message 69: by Kelly (new)

Ah ha! I think I've got it!
Audrey if it's ok with you, I could fill the whole section for the extra points with Mary Poppins as #26 the name in title, and I have filled in #27, 28, 29, and 30. Would that be ok with you?

message 71: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments Sure -- if you can do #26 as well, that's fine. I think that book may fit another category.

(I got Fortunately the Milk for another challenge, and I was hoping to use it for both, but it looks like I can't since it's LG.)

Liar & Spy IS MG, though.

message 72: by Debby (new)

Debby (da3witch) | 58 comments yes I have a #26 ...yay! will change when I get home

message 73: by Kelly (last edited Aug 04, 2022 07:50AM) (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) So sorry about Fortunately the Milk :-(

Hope everyone's reading is off to a great start! I'm enjoying A Small Zombie Problem for #86. I hope to finish it today and start (and maybe finish?) Pippi Goes on Board tonight.

message 74: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Oh, I am also listening to Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library on my work commute for the audiobook category. My son has a soccer scrimmage 40 minutes away this evening, so I'll listen to a good chunk of it then :) :) It's so good!!

message 75: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Hey, if you guys are okay with this, I'm going to attempt to read all of category 4, Words Fail. I'm almost finished with task 20, so one down four to go. Going for that 10 bonus points for a category completed by one person. I see Debby's doing that for category 5. Woo hoo!

message 76: by Aeriell (last edited Aug 05, 2022 12:47PM) (new)

Aeriell Castleman | 204 comments I can try to get all for section 11, I just need to find a book for 52 and 55 I have these books

message 77: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments Ann M Martin's Family Tree series all have a character death.

message 78: by Aeriell (new)

Aeriell Castleman | 204 comments So Kadi put up the spreadsheet for all the team's scores... we are currently in 5th. I'm not saying we have to push ourselves as I don't know ya'll scheduales and I'm honestly surprised with the scores too.

message 79: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments I'm going to try for category 10.

Last year my team won by getting all 100 tasks done. There were a couple of crazy fast readers.

message 80: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) I finished one tonight, started another. Will finish audiobook category tomorrow.

Aeriell, do you want to try to tackle Category 7 with me? The book for task #35 is what I started tonight. And I have one for #32. We could get the extra bonus 5 points? We would just need #33 (book set in the 80s - easy to find) and #34 (book with an alien who tries to disguise themselves as human - not quite as easy to find? 😉)

We got this. They may have gotten a fast start, but we'll be in the running once we finish all the books we have listed on the spreadsheet! And add even more. As Mary Poppins says, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” We got a job to do and it's a fun one, so go Team Mary Poppins!!
(I know, I'm annoying...)

You've got some good ones for that category, Audrey!

Wow. Looking at the entire spreadsheet, my first thought was there is no way we'll finish all 100! But it can be done I guess. We can do it!!

I was looking up books set in the 1980's and there isn't many and mainly got middle grade books that are from the 80's. I'll keeo looking. Also yeah 34 I'll keep looking as well. I have a list of ones I own so if ya'll see any that would fit let me know:https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 84: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments I read a Baby-Sitter's Club book for another challenge, and those were written in the 80s and should count for that.

message 85: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments The False Prince would work for #40 and #85 and #99.

Sky Jumpers would work for #90 and #75 and maybe a couple others but I can't remember enough of the book to be sure.

(Funnily enough, both those books are written by authors who live pretty close to me, so I have signed copies.)

Wow and thank you, I can also find books that may fill out the rest of section 8

message 88: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) If you search Middle Grade Fiction Set In The 1980s on Goodreads there's a list of 27 books. I'm on my phone at the moment so can't link to it momentarily.

I'm halfway through Stowaway. It's very good! Should finish it today.

Just finished 'Mary Poppins' ... an element of fun! Can't wait to print the whole list at the end of this challenge. So many books I want to read now!

message 92: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Same Debby!!

message 93: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments This might work for #34: Aliens on Vacation.

message 94: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) I think that would work!! I've already read it, so it would be yours, Aeriell. Then we can play the 80s one by ear?

message 95: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Moved into 3rd place!!

message 96: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) @Aeriell, we could also try to tackle category 1 together? I found one for tasks #1 and #5, but I'm not dead-set on them, if we wanted to change things around.

message 97: by Aeriell (new)

Aeriell Castleman | 204 comments So here is currently what I can do:
I still and looking at boks to finish section 8 and 11,
I can do task number 8 if King Arthur is a famous public figure since I have a book that has a person named Arthur in it.
I currently have nothing/ no idea for 33 or 34 so...
I can do 61 I think
Section 14 and 15 would be fun to taackle with more then one person
I could possibly do 90

Some of these are based on a series I am reading to completion that I own all for. Let me know what ya'll think! Remeber if some I mentioned here you want to do before me just go ahead and take them if you think you will get there before I do! I don't want to hog many of them!

message 98: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Ok. I got a book today for #33 (We Dream of Space) and Aru Shah and the Song of Death for #4, which is Jos's recommendation for our team.

I'd be interested in tackling Category 14 with you. "Gold sticker" doesn't necessarily mean just the Newbery medal, does it? The Pura Belpre and the Scott O'Dell awards also have a gold sticker.

Go Team Mary Poppins!

message 99: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Same as you, Aeriell, if I have something marked but someone has something else for it that, go for it. Please feel free to delete mine; many of them are just placeholders. Except for Category 4, which I'm doing myself, and a few others where 2 of us can tackle it!

I've started filling in more, but it doesn't mean those are set in stone. I do want to put book requests in at my library though, so that's why I'm doing that, just in case I do end up reading them.

Categories 16 and 19 are completely empty, so I may start filling in there as well.

message 100: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 463 comments The Mouse and the Motorcycle books should count for #80.

The Mister Monday (etc.) books have a protagonist named Arthur. Can that tie in to King Arthur?

Do you know what counts as how many pages are in the book? Does that include afterwards, author's notes, etc.?
