Lea (leaspot) | 3685 comments This thread is for the buddy read for The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.

"Pop your favorite Agatha Christie whodunnit into a blender with a scoop of Downton Abbey, a dash of Quantum Leap, and a liberal sprinkling of Groundhog Day and you'll get this unique murder mystery." ―Harper's Bazaar

Aiden Bishop knows the rules. Evelyn Hardcastle will die every day until he can identify her killer and break the cycle. But every time the day begins again, Aiden wakes up in the body of a different guest at Blackheath Manor. And some of his hosts are more helpful than others. With a locked-room mystery that Agatha Christie would envy, Stuart Turton unfurls a breakneck novel of intrigue and suspense.

I will probably start reading this book in mid August. From what I've heard, this book has a lot of characters and a lot of jumps, so I am going to read a hardback copy of the book instead of trying for audio. That will probably slow my pace a bit.

Please join us, even if your pace is a little different! :-)

Denise, what do you think about starting the week of August 14th? Would that work for you?

I'm still waiting on my copy from the library, so I hope to start mid August

That works for me.

Lea (leaspot) | 3685 comments Denise, Alissa just messaged me that she’s going to start the book this week. I finished some books earlier so I can start early too. Does that work for you?

I will probably finish the one I am reading today so that will free me up to start this one.

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1832 comments I started today. That first chapter was.... interesting... haha

well crap thats not a good sign! Ha!

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments Made it to chapter 10 so far and I have more questions than answers, but in a good way, I have a feeling this is the type of book that the answers won't come until the very end.

Lea (leaspot) | 3685 comments I’m just starting, but I’m going to have some time to read this weekend, so I will catch up. I’m intrigued…

I agree Denise. I feel like I'm playing a giant game of Clue reading this book. Right now, I'm with Lord Cecil Ravencourt (I think Chapter 14 or so), not surprising that this is the banker. LOL. I'm wondering if we are going to hit up all of the seven deadly sins with these characters.

Denise (derickert) | 1272 comments I finished and gave it 5 stars. Great book. Have to say I didn't even come close to figuring this one out until it was all reavealed.

This gives me hope Denise! I am currently 30% (we finally meet Anna) and I'm SO LOST!! haha I am glad it seems like it picks up and answers are revealed

I'm loving the book too, but it is not a book that can be read quickly for me. I keep thinking I'm missing clues and keep trying to keep track of the multiple days! I'm so glad that you ended up loving the book, fingers crossed for me. I have lots of questions, but I'll wait until the end. I think I'll finish this week?

Do you feel like you have to read slowly in order to not miss anything? I keep wondering, do I need to know that detail? I am always referring to the guest list and the map. It makes reading so slow for me. I feel like it is taking forever, but I'm really enjoying the mystery of it all!

I feel the exact same way!

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1832 comments I ended up rating it 3 stars. I really liked the ending, and Lea compared it to reading "Clue" and I totally agree! I did however end up more confused than not, so I feel like it took me out of the plot a bit too much trying to figure out who was in charge of each Chapter. But, definitely a fun and interesting concept!

Lea (leaspot) | 3685 comments I liked it a lot and ended up rating it 4 stars. I loved the ending too and the construct of the novel was super interesting. For me, though, it was a super hard read. I had to really pay attention to the details, and ended up writing a time line of what happened to who when. It helped a lot, especially with some of the changes. I wished some of the plot line had been buttoned up a little bit, but overall, I really enjoyed this one.
