Read this book within last 3 years. Published definitely onwards of 2000z {{SPOILERS AHEAD}} This is a fantasy book(could maybe be considered ya fantasy but character is older I think. 18-22ish) with dragons, who can shift into human form if they’re powerful enough, exorcists, and an element of time travel. The main character meets the eldest and most powerful dragon in the lands who lost his human wife centuries ago, and she helps him with her magic (exorcist) skills. At some point she needs to be sent to the past, where she ends up meeting the dragon when he’s young- and it’s obvious she’s going to be his missing wife (when she inevitably comes back to the future) OK THE INTRO THAT I Remember the most: It starts off with the main character, a girl, finally being rescued from an isolated island where the natives she never fully learned to speak with would ignore her. She leaves the fishing village to go to the dragon that has recently landed and is recovering in a high up cave on the island. The natives were (fearfully?) worshipping the dragon as a spurned god I think. The main character knows better and goes to meet the dragon- a young one who got lost in a storm. Together she helps navigate their journey as the dragon flies them out of the island towards somewhere they know. They reach other dragons, one being the King or head dragon in charge. Because they’re so powerful and or old they can hold human form. There’s also a war happening ? Lots of things happen I barely recall, but at some point the main character is sent back in time via the king dragon, and she meets the younger version of him where it’s heavily hinted SHE is the king dragon’s missing human wife from centuries ago. And this is why the wife went missing because she’s on a limited time journey to the past- where she meets him.
