Francesca | 391 comments Does anyone else wish that the rating system was out of 10 instead of out of 5?

I feel like ratings out of 10 give a more accurate result and makes it easier to give a fair review. For example, if I like a book but don't love it then out of 10 I could probably give it a 7 or an 8 which shows straight away that I thought it was good but I just didn't love it whereas giving a rating of 3 out of 5 looks like I thought it was mediocre or in the middle. I find it a bit frustrating to pick a star rating for some of the books I rate on here because I feel like the star rating doesn't show what I think. I know I can still leave a detailed review, and I do, but I feel like on face value a rating out of 10 gives a better judgement of how someone felt about something.

Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me being weird?

Megan (megan_morris) | 170 comments I've found myself wishing that from time to time on here. Even if they just allowed half-star ratings I feel like that would be a lot more accurate than a plain old five star rating.

Katie (ktmac_1) Yes, a half star is exactly what I need from time to time to rate a book. I feel like I am usually pretty generous with the star rating, mainly because it is such a narrow window of "like it, love it, hate it." Some books that I gave a four would really be more likely to get a three and half, but I round up.

Michelle Winchester I agree, I would appreciate either more stars or the possibility to rate half stars. I'm usually trying to be very thorough with my ratings and the five-star system doesn't allow for it.

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments In my book journal I give books ratings out of five but I allow myself half stars which is something I miss here. Sometimes I'll rate something 3.5 stars which means on here I either have to rate it as 3 (which I associate with it being okay or average) or 4 (which I think is good with a couple of bugbears that stop me from rating it a 5).

Sometimes I think that more stars or half stars would allow me to be more accurate, but I try to always write a review as well to help explain why I've rated a book in a particular way. :-)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Definitely - either out of ten, or half stars. It doesn't feel accurate enough for me this way.

Cris (cris_lectora) I agree. What I normally do is to add a numeric rating in my review, so if, for example I want to rate the book with a 7.5, I will give it 4 stars, but I'll add the actual rating below. But I'd love for Goodreads to add a 10-star system.
