Jillian | 2872 comments Irene, there is a maximum of 6 weeks possible. So a 3 and 4 both could not make it.

Same here. I am a libraria..."

This conversation reminded me that I'm a librarian too. I completely forgot!

message 103: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 903 comments Thanks Amy and Jillian!! I was looking for that message. I guess I'll still just have to upvote my favorites in the hopes that at least one will make it in!

message 104: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments There are quite a few I like but hope only one makes it in. Six weeks seems like a lot to tie up my reading year.

It let me go in and check and fix duplicates. But it finished so fast (without showing me the editions) that I wondered if maybe someone else already did it for me. (I recognized someone on the list who I know is a librarian.)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Is there a way to copy my profile link from the app? I'd like to vote but can't figure out how to get the link. I won't have access to a computer until Saturday night and I don't want to risk missing the vote

message 107: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments If you click More in the bottom right >> click your name in the top left >> click the arrow in the top right. There should then open options to share/test or copy. Select copy.

This is iOS.

message 108: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 2975 comments Maybe try opening Goodreads in a browser on your phone instead of using the app.

Potential resource if the season prompt makes it through.

message 112: by Madelynn (new)

Madelynn | 95 comments I think I’d enjoy if either of the connected to through prompts get through because there’s so many possibilities and I really enjoy the flexibility. If one of them gets in, I think I would probably count setting up the next book in the connection on my library holds even if I can’t read it immediately next.

message 113: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I had 6 downvotes in this one and 2 upvotes but the ones I didn't vote either way on I wouldn't mind getting in. I don't like too much interpretation in my prompts so I downvoted the ones where I thought that was the case. I end up wavering too much on what I want to read for those prompts and I worry that maybe I didn't interpret the prompt correctly. All kind of silly since we are pretty open in this group for what we select.

I spotted several that I definitely want to read. If it doesn't make it through as a 4 week prompt, it might make a nice single prompt. If we don't have many title prompts later on, we could use all four seasons - with the exact words. Or a broader prompt for one season, which could allow related words, settings or themes. I think I remember a winter prompt before, or maybe that was for a seasonal challenge.

(Damnation Spring is an interesting title. I associate one word with death, and the other with new life.)

Just a head's up, because I know you are all eagerly watching these threads for results:

All of the mods will be traveling on Sunday (clearly, not great planning on our part haha!). I will try to get results posted before I get on the road, but results may be posted later in the day than y'all are used to. We all have a busy weekend this weekend!

That's the most important part! Cancel plans!
Just kidding! You guys deserve breaks. And it only says results on Sunday, not what time so don't worry. And even if they aren't Sunday, people understand life happens.
Are there any clear winners you could tease....

message 117: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Is it just me? It seems like this voting is going on forever.

message 118: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments The last three seemed to fly by and this one isn't. I thought it was just me. Maybe it's because the stakes are higher this time as prompts can't be suggested again.

message 119: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. I am curious if most people wait to vote or vote right away? I usually vote right away but then sometimes I have voters remorse after reading more discussion.

message 120: by Thomas (new)

Thomas I tend to vote right away I find the discussion doesn’t sway me unless there’s a misunderstanding in my thinking. I don’t want to sound arrogant I just find what I want to read is very individual so hearing what other people like doesn’t affect how I feel

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments RachelG. wrote: "I am curious if most people wait to vote or vote right away? I usually vote right away but then sometimes I have voters remorse after reading more discussion."

I try and wait a bit but then I worry I'll forget to vote! So it's usually within a day of the vote opening.

message 122: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2872 comments I usually vote the day or following day a poll opens. I mainly use the discussion to see if any of my initial down votes should be moved to neutral. Sometimes, I initially interpret the prompts as being to narrow/confusing. I don’t like to wait until the last minute because who knows when GR will have a glitch.

Robin P | 3959 comments Mod
I always vote right away because I'm afraid otherwise I will forget. Usually there has already been a lot of discussion, which I follow. I also am the kind of person who has an immediate opinion on - everything! I'm always surprised that some people actually like to think about things before speaking/writing/deciding. Of course, jumping in too fast with an opinion has sometimes caused me problems in "real life".

Afterwards, I usually forget which nominations I voted for. Well, I will remember a couple I felt strongly about, but not all of them.

message 124: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Robin. That’s how I feel too you just expressed it again

message 125: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Sorry expressed it better

message 126: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments I'm the opposite of pretty much the whole group! I always wait as long as I can to vote. I like to do some research, see what I've got to fill all the suggestions, make a provisional decision, and then leave it overnight to make sure I'm happy with it. It's part of what I enjoy about this process, though it takes quite a bit of time away from the reading, which is bad because I'm behind.

message 127: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1832 comments I always mark initial thoughts, then read the discussion. Usually by the time the poll is posted I feel confident in my choices so vote on the first day or the second the latest, otherwise I'll forget. I just returned from vacation last night though so only voted today, though I did still mark my first impressions and read the discussion before going ahead and voting.

message 128: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 764 comments I’m just the same as Robin; gotta vote immediately so I don’t forget to do it! …then instantly forget what I actually voted for and just happily wait for results 😂

message 129: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 513 comments I follow the suggestion thread and start building up the votes I'm going to make while that is going on. I follow the discussion after and by the time it's time to vote I vote immediately. I have a notebook I've been keeping of all the suggestions and how I have voted so I can remember which prompts I've voted for.

Nadine in NY Jones | 2285 comments RachelG. wrote: "I am curious if most people wait to vote or vote right away? I usually vote right away but then sometimes I have voters remorse after reading more discussion."

I vote right away, and never have regrets. As soon as the suggestions are made, I jot down my gut reaction, and sort of noodle it over until I get 8 yes & no choices.

message 131: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2083 comments I usually vote as soon as I can - but sometimes life gets in the way, so I'm glad voting stays open for a while. But I usually read a few of the comments here first - someone else talking about how they would interpret a prompt can make a prompt I was neutral on something I'm actually excited about, or a prompt I hated seem not that bad.

message 132: by Jill (last edited Jul 23, 2022 02:49PM) (new)

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments As the suggestions come in I try to work out what books would fit . If the suggestion doesn't get in, I keep the note in case it comes up again later on. Working from that, I usually have books in mind and then can vote pretty early on.

message 133: by Robin P, Orbicular Mod (last edited Jul 23, 2022 03:21PM) (new)

Robin P | 3959 comments Mod
I don't think I ever look into what books will fit, unless the prompt seems really narrow. In fact, I ended up having trouble one year with a prompt I had submitted myself that got voted in! After we get all the prompts in place, I start looking into what will fit. Then I change my mind multiple times during the year anyway.

message 134: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1337 comments In regards to voting....I usually miss the suggestions thread due to timezones so I start by recording my gut reactions without reading any comments. Then go back to the suggestions thread and read through the comments to see if that changes any opinions or helps as I usually haven't got 8 votes with gut reaction. then I go to the voting thread and read comments again to see if anything sways me. Then I will vote within the first day of voting opening - I don't want to forget.
I record it all in an excel spreadsheet, my up and down votes and then how they eventually come out.

message 135: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I usually vote within the first 1-2 days of the poll opening. Partly it's because I'm worried I'll forget, but I also usually have a pretty strong idea of which suggestions I want right away. Sometimes they take a little research, but I tend to choose according to what I think will fit the books I'm already very interesting in picking up, so I usually have a good sense of what fits.

I prefer prompts where I have more than 1-2 options, but not so many that it's a complete freebie, so if I have to choose from a list I'm usually not so interested. I'll look at listopias to get some ideas, but if I see very little on there that I've marked "want to read" already, I'm much less likely to vote for it. Mind you, my TBR on Goodreads has literally over 4000 books on it, so I'm also looking for books that I'm actively interested in trying soon, not just something I've marked that I want to read at some point.

message 136: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I’m actually someone that can be swayed by the discussion. I generally have a few I know I’ll upvote and a few I know I’ll downvote.

All of you are so creative, that prompts I may not have liked originally, can become upvotes based on how people describe it or how excited others are. The Twilight Zone prompt was that for me last year. I’ve never seen the show and really have zero interest. But so many people were excited and there were enough ideas that I could make it work, that I ended up giving it an upvote.

In a meaner spirit, there may be one I was originally neutral on because I think of it as a freebie. But if people show a lot of interest, I may downvote because I want to try to hold room for something down the line. 🙈

message 137: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 903 comments I usually vote on the last day (I'm voting right now!) unless I have very definite up/downvotes from the get-go. I'm an indecisive person so I tend to have a lot that I'm on the fence about, so the discussion often helps me decide how to vote on those.

Interestingly, I just submitted my 3 upvotes and 5 downvotes, and it's pretty significantly different from how I thought I would vote when I first saw the suggestions. I guess it's because I realized that some of the prompts I didn't like wouldn't actually be difficult for me to do so I didn't feel like I disliked them enough to downvote them.

message 138: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 180 comments I usually vote as soon as I see the voting is up (which sometimes takes me more than one day).

message 139: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments I vote as soon as I"m able. Causually following the discussion thread, I've sometimes had mild regret about not voting a certain way. But forget by results day and also most of who I voted for. I've found some I thought would be hard are easy and visa versa. Women in Stem I'm looking at your this year :)
