I am currently re-reading/-listening The Mailman by Bentley Little
I think Little is at his strongest when he turns and twists elements of everyday life in surreal, kafkaesque horror nightmares. The Mailman is the best example for this.

I prefer hardcover. They still look like new even after 40 years of re-reading. Paperbacks tend to break at the spine.
