      I, for sure, thought he had romantic feelings for her back in the day and felt bad for not looking out for her since he promised his friend. Add in some guilt about liking his friends wife for good measure. Think it was a punch to the gut seeing her after all these years.
    
        
      I actually think he had stronger feelings for Eliza. She definitely didn’t for him or she wouldn’t have stayed away for over 20 years. I think Lincoln was feeling like she was the one that got away. 
However! His feelings may have been a bit convoluted...a little guilt, a little attraction and a lot of loneliness because his own marriage wasn’t working.
