Chris wrote: "I'm sorry, I'm new, but how are the winners chosen?"In all seriousness, I believe all the nominations are thrown into a hat, so to speak (of course it's all done via computer) and one is drawn at random from each category. So the more votes a book has, the more times it goes into the hat, and the better chance it has of winning.
Reader Pick: The Abyss Beyond Dreams: A Novel of the CommonwealthYoung adult: I'm not positive if this is space opera or not, but The 5th Wave looks good.
I'll pass on the other categories this month.
@ Chris - I track all the nominations in an Excel Spreadsheet, and then on the 1st of the month I go over to www.random.org and use their List Randomizer to pick a winner in each category. If more than one person nominates the same book, it increases the odds of that book coming out on top of the list, but at the end of the day, it's all just purely RANDOM :-)Although I do rather like the HAMPSTER explanation. :-)
@ MorningLightMountain - The 5th Wave is definitely Young Adult Friendly ... I've read it and enjoyed it.
Okay ... updated Book Cover Bling!

INDIE PICK:
YA FRIENDLY PICK:
Gosh, lots of pretty covers. Sorry I've been a bit quiet lately, but I'm rushing around preparing for a house move and reading time is limited!
Aa, that's the wrong book in the bunch. :-(Instead of this
should be this
They are not one and the same and the former is not available in ebook version.
For YA I'd like to see Ender's Shadow. It's so much better than Ender's Game. I don't even recall what happened in Ender's Game but remember everything about Ender's Shadow and I read it over a decade ago.
I'm definitely in for Ancillary Sword, I loved Ancillary Justice and have this waiting on my Kindle already :-)One indie suggestion, because I just finished reading it:

Contract of Defiance is a great read! I really enjoyed that whole trilogy
Hi, sorry I'm late with this one, but I'd like to second the Reader Pick nomination of The Abyss Beyond Dreams by Peter F. Hamilton. Not sure how this would go down if the reader hasn't read the Void trilogy, but I reckon it might be okay.
Full disclosure: I'm editing and packaging the Traveller novels for Far Future Enterprises, but may I submit:Shadow of the Storm
and
Fate of the Kinunir
Don't worry if you've never played the Traveller RPG--these are meant to be accessible to anyone.
Chris wrote: "When, where, will the choices be made?"The results are typically announced by the evening of the first day of the month (so, any time now). Occasionally it takes an extra day or so. There will be a group message in your inbox announcing the winners, or else they'll be announced with new forum threads
