I think the opposite. I think Nikhil killed her because Himani told him to do so. I think he moved the body all by himself but she told him where to put her. The main reason is because he tried to kill himself in the end. If his mother had killed her, he wouldn’t have felt so guilty. Himani was awfully vague about the details at the scene.
But, I can also see your scenario, too. Either way, these two were just fine with killing Kavita, which speaks to their moral dearth. Why would saving face be more important than the life you gave to a child. I don’t think Himani will be able to protect Nikhil. Too much going against him but she certainly will try.

I can see Nikhil trying to kill himself even if he had a small part in killing his sister. I don't think he is a bad person at heart, but angry because his family, especially his mother, is making life difficult for the boys. I mean who takes your child's cell phone when they haven't done anything to deserve it. I'm sure they had to listen to their mother bad mouth Vita all the time.
Himani doesn't have a heart. She will never try to kill herself.
What I couldn’t understand was Nikhil continuing to bad mouth her, knowing she was dead. I think he was threatening to kill himself not out of remorse but because of the shame he now has brought on the family. He knew Tracy was close to solving the murder as soon as she disclosed how’d they’d figured out how to find her.
Oh, Himani thinks she’ll beat the system. She’s pretty righteous in her justification about Kavita. Not once did she express any sorrow that her daughter is dead.
She’s pretty scary.
She’s pretty scary.

Jonetta, you make a good point that Himani never expressed any sorrow toward losing her daughter. She was more worried about how the family would look to others.
