Books only available through as app like Storytel do not meet Goodreads criteria for addition to the database.
Thank you! Storyside is Storytel’s publisher name (as mentioned here: https://publishing.storytel.com ) so information on the books is naturally only found on their website. Is that okay?
Also shouldn’t the page count be the physical version’s count? The paper version’s publisher hasn’t specified it on their website (https://safehouse.kr/books/vampire), but the seller they link to confirms it’s 304 pages (https://www.aladin.co.kr/m/mproduct.a...)
All books where the publisher is Storyside are only available on Storytel. It’s a bit confusing with the names sounding a little different.

No. Please see https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Oh I see, thank you. Do you know why that is though, listening to ten hours doesn’t even come close to reading ten pages!

It is also available through their website, which is also the publisher’s website. Audiobooks are mostly electronic nowadays, available through the web, so where would they need to be available from for them to be accepted?
Sorry I overlooked the “app” part of your comment. To clarify, it is available via the app and the website.
Can the book be read in its entirety on the site, or does one need to have the app to read (listen to) the book?
Well you need to buy a subscription or at least sign up for a trial, the books are not free. Similar to Audible? Audiobooks are clearly mentioned on here : https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/... and not on the following list of not allowed items, so I’m confused why this is a problem. Mine has an ISBN as well, so it is an officially published book. Or is this only regarding the cover? Information on the book is available without buying a subscription as it is also the publisher’s site.

I am a bit confused about what the issue is as well, as the book has an ISBN, is available through multiple format, etc.

Then that edition does not belong on Goodreads.

Can you link to a manual with rules on that please? I'm confused. Paper books work the same way - you have access to the contents, description and other information and then you can read the whole thing only after you buy it. How is this different? What forms of audiobooks do you accept then? Only ones sold on CDs? Most people don't really use those nowadays...
If the audiobook can be downloaded after purchase, that's fine. From your description, that does not seem to be the case.
The audiobook can be downloaded in-app after purchase. It can also be streamed. Could you link to the rules please? I can’t find anything on it so I don’t know if other librarians are on the same page.
Matylda wrote: "The audiobook can be downloaded in-app after purchase."
But you still need to be logged into the app to listen to it?

If it is only available via a website that requires registration, it does not meet Goodreads criteria for inclusion.
Can you please link to the rules? As I said before, Audible also requires registration but it is allowed.
The things you said are not mentioned in the rules on the pages below at all, so could you please link me to them?

I’m sorry did you delete the book all together? Could you please back your claims this is ridiculous.
rivka wrote: "If it is only available via a website that requires registration, it does not meet Goodreads criteria for inclusion."I just noticed that the paperback of this novel was also deleted. I don’t understand why the paperback was also deleted because the author is one of the most famous Korean authors and she has won several famous awards so far. This book “밤에 찾아오는 구원자” is her latest new novel, and every bookstore in Korea sells this paperback. We dont need to register the bookstore to buy it. It is ranked in bestseller in Korea.
For these reasons, I really dont understand why the paperback has been removed on goodreads database. Hope this novel to get back to goodreads database.
Just in case, I link the acceptable source here.
(National library of Korea and the publisher site of the paperback)
https://www.nl.go.kr/EN/contents/engS...
https://safehouse.kr/books/vampire#11...
P.S.) Regarding the audiobook of this novel…
Korea has a little different sales system on audiobook, compared to other countries. There are several audiobook companies, and we can only purchase audiobooks there. For example, if you want to buy the audiobook of “밤에 찾아오는 구원자”, which Matylda wants to listen to, You can only buy this audiobook at “Storytel” only. As far as I know, there is no other site we can buy this audiobook except Storytel. Even bookstores dont sell this audiobook. In this case, could we add this audiobook to the goodreads database? Or still not meet for the goodreads criteria?

Thank you so much Jin! Finally someone who makes sense 😅
I've read there are some librarians who don't consider audiobooks "books" and delete them from the database despite Goodreads guidelines.. I hope that's not the case here?
I know they were only talking about subscription-based platforms, but if that was the case Audible books (which you need to register to listen to) shouldn't be allowed either. If Rivka can't provide Goodreads guidelines supporting their claims (I tried to find them, but no luck), I'm not too sure they're acting on behalf of Goodreads but on their own agenda.
They kept saying this, but I found no source apart from them stating this.
rivka wrote: "If it is only available via a website that requires registration, it does not meet Goodreads criteria for inclusion."
I don't think they had the right to delete either, but especially the paperback - as you said, it's a formally published book by a prominent publisher and author in Korea.
Jin, do you reckon that if the publisher of the audiobook is Storyside (Storytel's publishing house), it can be used as a source for information? This is for the future when I'll request new books to be added. As written in the guidelines, it is the publisher's site, so it should be accepted I think?

If Storytel registration is the only way to access the book then it is not supposed to be added to Goodreads as was mentioned above. This has always been the case. Adding books like this can lead to copyright violations so I think that is part of the reason the ability was removed. I think this is the page you are looking for:

No it is not. I have to defend the librarians on this point. If an audiobook has been deleted for that reason by some rogue person you can report it, because the members of this group, and especially the moderator, do not violate guidelines.
Jin wrote: "I just noticed that the paperback of this novel was also deleted..."I can't tell personally where the paperback was deleted, but it can certainly be re-added.

I added the paperback a few weeks ago, based on the acceptable sources, so I was just wondering if there was any reason I should know why the paperback had to be deleted. I want to make sure before re-adding it.
Hi Matylda,I added the paperback. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
As for the audiobook, Storytel or Storyside requires a membership or subscription for listening to audiobooks. Rivka the Librarian Moderator mentioned above that it does not meet Goodreads criteria for this reason, and I think we should follow the rule even though Audiobook sales system in Korea is somewhat strange and Storytel is only site we can purchase and listen to the audiobook 밤에 찾아오는 구원자. She is the one who knows better than anyone about the Goodreads policy. I hope you understand this situation.

Thank you so much for your explanation! I am still confused however, because on the page you linked to, subscriptions are only mentioned under "shorts", and this book is a full-length novel. Information about the book is available without registration or purchase - same other publisher websites. You only need to register if you want to listen to the book - if I'm not mistaken, you'd need to register before purchasing audiobooks on most websites, or before signing up to an Audible subscription - so I don't see how this can lead to copyright violations any more than taking information from any other publisher. I really don't mean to sound rude or anything I'd just like to understand.

That's cool, thank you! Before the book was removed it was flagged as not a book. I read through this article ( https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/... ) and couldn't find where it was mentioned? Since it is a recording of a fictional novel, it doesn't fall under some of the categories suggested here (https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...). Did someone flag it by mistake then?
Thank you Jin for re-adding it, although not ideal I can at least track my reading for the paperback. As I mentioned above in this comment I'm still confused where the policy comes from though.
I understand you all must be incredibly busy since Goodreads have removed the option for ordinary users to add books themselves. It is also stressful for users though - everyone can't be expected to know the ins and outs of the manual, and it is especially frustrating when there is a claim about a rule, but it's not supported even after being asked for many times. I appreciate all that you do, I know the system is not making it easy.
