Nancy (nancyhelen) | 1469 comments Hi everyone.

I just finished The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss by Patrick Rothfuss and (much to my surprise) I absolutely loved it, to the extent that the minute I closed the book I had already ordered the second book from the library. However, aside from Lord of the Rings, I haven't ever really read fantasy before and I am a bit worried as I don't quite know what I ought to try next which would give me as much pleasure at Name of the Wind.

Could I get some recommendations please?

Justin (rockstarintraining) Have you read the Harry Potter series? That's definitely must-read fantasy. Also, A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) is great. I've only read the first two in the series as they are a little more challenging with lots of different characters and stories. I would say both of those are the most popular in the fantasy genre right now.

Thank you, Justin! I actually haven't read any Harry Potter, so I have ordered one from the library. I have the whole Game of Thrones series but haven't started reading them yet. I bought them because I loved the TV series so much...

Thanks, Kieron. I have actually read The Lies of Locke Lamora when NBRC did it as a BOM which I really enjoyed, but where would I start with Joe Abercrombie and Robin Hobb? Are there any books in particular?

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments The Name of My Wind is easily my favorite fantasy series, glad to hear you liked it! :)

Blood Song is a good one, it's the first of three with the third set to be released this summer. The depth of worldbuilding is really good and the author uses subtle foreshadowing hints (like Rothfuss!) which I love.

The Crimson Campaign is another first of three. It's quite different from NotW, more of a militaristic fantasy, but it's also really unique in it's magic.
