The protagonist is a woman painter. She has been creating a series of large paintings for a commission. She has been working for almost a year and her studio catches fire and her works are destroyed. She has about two months to recreate her work, while keeping the distruction of her original paintings a secret. She goes to an artist's colony that is almost defunct and tries to find out what happened to the famous and talented founder who disappeared many years ago.
