This is my first tag post, hope I did it correctly. Although this memoir does contain much about the author’s life from childhood through early middle age it’s actually more about the psychology of “obsessions” such as fandom, here, her sudden rabid obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch. She does a serious study of the phenomenon including interviews with fellow BC addicts around the world, psychologists etc. This was a brief, funny book that makes many good points about attitudes toward women in modern society. It made me think back to my own many obsessions over the years- none as long lasting nor all-consuming as hers. There is also an appendix that IS about Benedict Cumberbatch. Great review. This sounds interesting. I never quite understood how and why some obsessions get so strong. Not that I have any obsessions of course, despite what a certain family member thinks. {{looking around the room at all the books.}} 😏
