Talia Carner (authortalia) | 2 comments Hi,
My novel , THE THIRD DAUGHTER, has been listed by close to 10,000 readers on their "to-read" list. The needle has only moved up since the novel's release almost 3 years ago. The numbrs spiked last year when the novel was named Finalist (2nd place) in the Jewish Book Council Award--one of the most prestigious literary organizations in the country.

But I've seen no conversion from this group of readers into action, even as the novel received thousands of great ratings (4-5 stars) here on GoodReads--presumably by other readers.

How do I remind these 10,000 potential readers who've shown interest to act on their initial reaction?

Julia Tilson (juliatilson) | 29 comments This is why I've hesitated to do giveaways... yes, I would get more shelf adds, but not sales for my novel. My guess would be external advertising through your distributor. Maybe people will see your book there and be reminded of their initial decision?
As a reader (and author), I generally only add books that I really plan on reading, rather than have my shelf filled for books I've forgotten. I don't know if other readers are in that boat as well?
I migrate many of those books here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Christopher Taylor (christophertaylor) | 112 comments Its worth doing a giveaway for a small (VERY small) number of books, 1-3 at most. You'll see interest and purchases go up if you do that. Start it on a weekend so it ends on a weekend, don't run longer than a week or so. Careful about international participation, the postage overseas can be surprisingly high.

Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who routinely intend to do things, but for whatever reason, fail to follow through and actually do what they intended,

If someone wishes to purchase and then read an author's work they will. If they don't, they won't.

Due to the vast numbers of traditionally published and self-published authors, there are now quite possibly far more books available on a regular basis then there are serious avid readers.
