This was a very well-run organization. Everyone made lots of money and no one lived outside their means. White collar crime is hard to prove, and these were very smart people who had been doing this for years. They bought the police and were able to stay in the shadows by holding regular jobs.
I had a hard time following the whole situation. The one thing I figured out (guessed) early in the story was that Mitch and Victoria divorced because he was gay and in love with Stan. As far as staying under the radar, I think the local police knew about the gambling operation and just looked the other way.
There’s no way these people were getting away with all of this stuff unnoticed. Simon hadn’t even worked in three years! People with money are too often given a pass and it seemed to be true with these people. On the surface, they looked like good citizens. The reality was awful.
