Back in the mid-90s I was working at a bookshop and read an ARC of a speculative fiction book that was—I am 99% sure—titled One of Us. It was the early days of the Internet and the protagonist used the Net in a physical way, moving through it and taking turns and seeking addresses as though driving a car, mostly very fast—he described, I believe, passing things in a blur of speed.

The story began with his job (which entailed dreaming dreams for other people, an interesting plot device), proceeded through some middle part I'm not remembering, and ending up with his being followed by CIA types who are revealed to be aliens.

I'm not really a speculative fiction reader but oddly I've often thought of this book and recently thought to look for it, but there's nothing under that title anywhere that corresponds to this story. (I am wondering, since it came to me as an ARC, whether the title might have been changed prior to publication.)
