The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
question
Did anyone else notice a great deal of symbolism throughout "The Brief Wondrous life of Oscar Wao," specifically on Diaz's references to the canefields?

I noticed that whenever something unfavorable or violent happens it usually takes place in the cane fields.

I noticed a lot of symbolism there Heaven. As I researched I discovered canefields are the place where slaves worked in the Dominican Republic. They're like basically the cotton fields of the Caribbean. So the canefields carried a lot of symbolic weight throughout the novel.
