William Stubblefield | 7 comments How do I determine if my book is appropriate for kids under eighteen?

There is considerable violence (as in bronze age warfare) and one sex scene. The sex scene would be R rated in a movie. It includes the initial stages of a sexual encounter—nudity and touching/kissing above the waist—but leaves the further activity to the reader's imagination.

I suggest you just focus upon marketing and promoting your published work to the reading public in general. Leave the determination for what age the material is suited to the parents or guardians of those technically considered minors.

Most experienced, responsible parents judge the contents of material which they deem appropriate to be viewed, read, or listened to by their children based upon the level of the child's demonstrated maturity and the type of information provided during parent/child discussions, not by their numerical age.

Age is just a numerical measurement. The evolution from childhood to adulthood is dependent upon behavior and knowledge, not a number. There are 16-year-old adults and 60-year-old children.

Jim, Thanks for the reply. I agree with you totally, but Amazon KDP asks me to check a box on it. I'm thinking of checking the "No inappropriate material" box. What are your thoughts?
