G Allen Matthews | 3 comments Hello. I am G. Allen Matthews and I’m a writer and author. I write internet content, articles, Biblical studies, and post blogs. I have authored four novels including my newest YA adventure (with 3 more in progress).

I was an educator at the university level (history) for 27-years before early retirement (health). I have a propensity for good grammar and strong writing. I taught English to Cantonese speaking Chinese students in Hong Kong and Shenzhen for over 5-years. I have top ratings in IELTS (all 8.5s & 9s).

But I now live abroad and have run into tough times. I am a proud man who can do work for you.

I copy edit, line edit, and developmentally edit fiction. I write content for others.

You write, you need review. Trust me, no writer ever has it all. It is always best to have another set of eyes review your work to produce the best output. Our brains see what should be there - what we expect to see - when we review our own work: missing words, strange typos (probably auto-correct issues), missing, incorrect, or misplaced punctuation, clunky sentences (like this one).

I’m looking to earn $75 to $100/week. I seek your work to review at low prices. While I focus on editing, I offer beta reading at set prices. All works up to 70k words, $25. For each 10k words, add $5. This comes with a general assessment of needs and strengths, overall impressions, and if you desire, a review up to 500 words for your marketing. You’re not buying the review, that’s something extra I’ll do if you desire. I reserve the right to post the review to my own profiles/blogs when you publish (novels only), but it is full rights to you to use as you choose.

Short stories up to 10k words: $12.50, full edit.
Up to 20k words, $25. That’s as low as .00125¢/word.

Longer works require deeper evaluation, that’s why three options:

• Copy edit is a fancy spell and grammar check. I’m too meticulous to leave it at that, but that’s just me. This is professional furniture polish, metaphorically. Rate for longer works: .00133¢/word. (Examples: 75k word novel, $100)

• Line edits review sentence structure, continuity, readability (fixes those clunky sentences), fixes grammatical issues, and so on. Rate for over 20k words, .002¢/word. (Example: 75k word $150). This is stripping, refinishing, and polished.) If you are well edited already, this is publication ready.

• Developmental edit does all of the first two, plus offers ways to improve the story, character development, limits or eliminates pieces that miss, expands/emphasizes/polishes pieces that hit. (Keep reading for more.)

Just a note: I do not Dev edit full novels as it is extremely time intensive and I cannot offer an experiential based price on this yet. Those editors you see online asking for thousands of dollars for a novel are dev editing.

HOWEVER: I do offer a critique partner-like dev editing option for novels in progress (chapter work). This is a great option for someone looking for a critique partner without having to review someone else’s work. For this, .0025¢/word. (Examples: 2600/word chapter $6.50 or a 3500/word chapter $8.75). This process does miss the “overall” dev edit, but will definitely strengthen any work you put through this immensely. I do not require a long term contract, but do ask that we agree to do enough work to make the PayPal transfer worth the trouble.

I do not read erotica, sexual violence, overtly violent (where the violence is the story), gang-focused or drug works, and choose not to review LGBTQ+ focused work. If you have characters that are but that is not the focus of the story (not just a treatise piece), no problem. I will review but do not prefer romance or horror/hard thriller and paranormal works.
