Yes it did! I loved learning the backstory as they came together. They are a good match. I was a little disappointed in Max as I mentioned in a previous question. I didn't get this man. While I'm happy Max and Gina are together, I can't say that I enjoyed the journey. Overall, I loved this book.
I've been waiting for Sam and Alyssa to get together since book 2. It was a long, frustrating wait, but it was worth it.One thing that surprised me was Donnie DaCosta getting killed in the explosion. I didn't see that coming.

Sam & Alyssa’s story far surpassed my expectations! His backstory alone made it special.
I’m not calling Max and Gina’s current reunion being back together. He’s still looking for the escape hatch. Something big is going to need to happen for him to wake up. Yep, I’m very disappointed in him but I still have faith in him.
Robin, Donny dying caught me by surprise, too. You know, yes this is a reread (but on audio) but I didn’t remember 3/4 of this story from my original read 12 years ago. It was if I was hearing it for the first time. I think it’s because I binge read the series after the third book, fully intending to reread it but then discovered Shelfari. That opened me up to a wonderful community and a plethora of new authors.
This has been a wonderful rereading experience. I’m glad I decided to do it on audio, even the original versions.

I enjoyed the story and loved Sam's backstory, and Sam and Alyssa's HEA was satisfying despite their often senseless bickering, which could have been quickly resolved if they just stopped and spoke to each other like adults. I might be in the minority, but I actually enjoyed Max and Gina's push-pull more. I have a thing for stoic heroes falling apart for the women they love.
I was devastated that Donnie was killed. He had such a sad and difficult life; it doesn't seem fair that he died just as he was becoming more outgoing with the people in his life.
Donnie's death was awful. I don't often second guess authors, but I really wish Brockmann would have spared him. This is a reread for me on audio too. It makes it totally different and I'm really enjoying it.
I agree with all of you; I hate that Brockmann decided to kill Donny. Lauren it's funny that you and I see the push pulls between Sam/Alyssa and Max /Gina differently.
So far my library has all of the books so far on audio. I noticed that there are some missing, but I will buy them. The audio experience is excellent.

Almost every book we discuss, I rethink an opinion I had of a character or event. I don't change my mind necessarily but I try to see the different perspectives.
