Sheriff King begins pursuing the possibility that Victor Kruger killed Mary Fox, left town and has communicated with his wife, Jenny. Did you think that was a logical or viable investigative path at the time?

For the Sheriff, yes. He has to investigate all avenues. The reader is more invested in it not being Vic as he is Lance's father. I don't think it will be, Melinda Leigh doesn't really write unpredictable novels. By that I mean that the hero's (Lance) missing father would not be a murderer.
