Natalie (nataliejcase) | 2 comments Greetings all, my name is Natalie Case, and I am the author of 6 books with Next Chapter and a handful of others, as well as an editor and a reader of many books.

My latest book is Thanátou (The Blood Witch Saga Book 1).

I am a photographer and I crochet, paint, and other crafts. I like to travel (when my agoraphobia allows) and of course, no day is complete without writing at least a little. I'm a technical writer in the day job also.

I refuse to be pigeon-holed into any one genre. When I write it's often urban fantasy/magical realism, but also includes horror, poetry, science fiction, poetry, and more. In reading, I tend toward science fiction and fantasy, but can be enticed into almost any genre.

I need great writing, descriptive without being too flowery and a story that sucks me into the author's world. I want to forget I'm reading and just live in the story.

I don't really do groups well (due to above mentioned agoraphobia), but I'm hoping to find new readers and some new reads.

Catherine Greenall (catherine_greenall) | 3 comments I am an environmentalist committed to using my writing to make a difference to the way people treat others, animals and the environment.
I gained a Master of Philosophy degree in Chemistry and turned to writing after a long career as a government scientist. I always loved to write stories as a child and feel blessed to be able to spend more time writing now.
I am the author of an apocalyptic, visionary, science fiction trilogy. The first book ‘A Quirk of Destiny’ was awarded joint best book of 2013 by Green Living. The second book in the trilogy is 'Return to Gallanvaig' and the shocking final book is ‘Destiny of Light.’ The trilogy is based on actual science and imagines a world where toxic food has caused a deadly disease, where there are corrupt power systems and mutants with strange powers caused by the sickness. This trilogy was written as a warning about the potential dangers in our food and how this situation has been allowed to flourish. You can watch the trailer for the trilogy in the Amazon Author Updates section.

My work also includes ghost, horror and vegan cookery, as well as scientific works. I am a long-term vegan and published works include a vegan cookbook, "Vegans Can't Eat Anything!" and collections of short stories.

Edward Hochsmann (emhochsmann) | 1 comments Hello! Edward (Ed) Hochsmann here (he/him). I am an independent author with a day job at the Department of Defense.
Writing started as my hobby, but has become more of a calling as I publish. I suppose my current hobby would be messing around with 3D models for illustrations in my books.
I would say that my favorite genre for reading would be historical fiction and either hard or everyman science fiction. For writing, I have published three action/adventure novels centered on a Coast Guard patrol boat assigned to special missions in South Florida and the Caribbean and two space opera novella featuring the creation of interplanetary economic union by two previously warring races.
What I look for in a book is a good, plausible plot advanced by likeable, believable characters. I like a little action to spice things up, but there needs to be some thoughtful progression of the story. This is what I try to give back to my readers.
I am excited to be a member of "The Source" and look forward to learning more about everyone!

Alison Williams (sillwill) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Alison (she/her)

I am an Author and an Illustrator and a Reader?

Sewing used to be a big hobby though I've been taking a break from it as I try to market my first fully-prose novel, The Witch's Foundling. I am also the author/illustrator of a graphic novel, fantasy trilogy called The Sorcerer's Children.

I usually read fantasy, science-fiction, historical mystery, paranormal (with a little bit of horror but not too much as I am chicken at times) and then I'll dive into some historical non-fiction too. It often dovetails with what I'm writing but not always. History is often a source of inspiration. It was for the late 19th century setting of The Witch's Foundling at any rate.

A book has to have interesting characters for me. You can spend a ton of time world building a wonderful and imaginative setting but if I can't connect in someways with the characters, I'll probably end up putting it down unfinished - even while I might admire the world created.

What are you looking forward to most from The Gingham Cricket Book Club?
I would have to know what The Gingham Cricket Book Club was before I could form an opinion. Is it a series or a discussion group? Sounds interesting either way - even though in the past I've tried to figure out cricket without much success.
I'm still trying to find my way around Goodreads but it's been heartening to find so many indie-authors out there willing to support each other.

John Broughton (johnbroughton) | 3 comments Hi Alison,
Thanks for your contribution - interesting.
You're not the only one who finds Goodreads user unfriendly. I think it needs a good overhaul. I'm totally put off trying to participate fully in this group because I know it will cost me too much valuable time. I tried to place my novels in their category i-e., historical novels, but although it went through the motions, the label historical novels still stubbornly shows 0 books. That alone wasted me 90 minutes!
I wonder if this reply will come up!

Alison Williams (sillwill) | 3 comments Hi John, I know what you mean. I think every platform should be designed with the understanding that it will be used by a large number of Techno-inepts. I can learn most platforms but it takes me a long, long time which I can't always spare. I would still consider myself in the learning stage with Goodreads and I've been registered for a few years now. First, I signed up as a reader and just recently converted my account to an Author's account. That was an experience. Mostly due the fact they want your Goodreads connected to your Facebook and the link for Facebook wasn't working the first few times I tried. Anyway, just a long-winded way of saying I wish they would redesign the site too.

John I figured out why your books were not showing up on the right shelves. You selected a discussion folder, but you did not select a shelf. So I have updated all of your books for you ;)
