The Source Book Club discussion
INTRODUCTIONS
Hello Im Cynthia A. Morgan (She/Her)
Im an Author.
Favourite Genres: Fantasy& Dystopian Fantasy/ Historical Romance& Drama/YA
My Hobbies include WRITING (and publishing, as I am a published author) books in my favourite genres and poetry. I also love nature, discussing the unknown, and exploring spirituality.
My articles, stories and poetry serve as a backdrop for powerful messages like ‘show thankfulness through kindness and appreciate blessings through generosity’ (which is the message behind my Dystopian Fantasy THE MERCY SERIES) and ‘the only way to achieve peace is by becoming peace’ (which is the message behind my YA Fantasy DARK FEY).
My writings seek harmony, unity, and acceptance of all races, creeds, orientations, and views.
In books I look for exceptional writing, unforgettable world-building, and breathtaking characters that sweep me away from reality.
Im looking forward to meeting readers and sharing my realms and characters.

As you can see from these titles, I don't write in one genre, rather, I tend to write stories when they inspire me. The first book I wrote (can't believe it has been over ten years) is on India. The next four books are part of a science fiction series called The Galaxy Series. And I term my latest as an international adventure.

Next Chapter is a publishing house. :) I hadn't heard of them, until finding Cynthia's Dark Fey trilogy.

I’m primarily a fantasy author, but I try to read 13 books a year and I will give any genre a chance at least once. I’m not a fan of horror. Post-apocalyptic isn’t for me either. I’m a bit behind on the reading and the writing, at the moment. Thank goodness it’s only June, right? There’s still time to catch up. I’m working on my 4th book in my The Journals of Ravier series.
Soon, I’ll be rolling out the digital boxed set for ACT I (books 1 – 3). I’ve waited to have this trio for quite some time. That 3rd book about killed me to write. The finish wasn’t easy. If I had to describe my books in one word it would be: unpredictable.

What I look for in the fiction books I read is realism. I want to see true emotions. I want characters who act in a realistic way. Expansive world-building is just a bonus. Give me an excellent cast of characters and you’ll steal me away from my work. You’ll keep me up at night, until I literally can’t stay awake to turn one more page. That is, if I go to bed with some energy left for reading. I’m a bit of a night owl . . .
My hobbies include sewing and painting (watercolors). Now that my craft room is organized for productivity, I’ve already finished a few projects. Baby and pet blankets, mostly. I’m quite excited for my next project. Mini outfits of what my main characters wear. Eek! Coats and cloaks and Arkiveis robes (think “a new take on wizard robes”). It’s going to be such fun!
I hope to connect with some really great readers and authors here. I’m sure I will. If you have any questions for me, please ask. :) Sorry in advance if I’m slow to respond. Life can be hectic at times. And this summer is no exception.
Take care!
Julie

My name is Sandra J. Jackson (she/her), I live in Canada, and I'm an author for Next Chapter Publishing.
I enjoy reading many different genres, and as such, write in many genres as well. Currently, I have four published works. The first is a metaphysical romance and the other three are part of The Escape Series. A sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, suspense trilogy.
I'm currently working on a thriller.
One of my hobbies that keeps me very busy is my gardening. I started to build a rather large garden outside the walls of an old barn in 2019. In 2021, we began removing the 20 or so years of growth inside the barn walls and started to create gardens in there as well. It's been a lot of hard work, and my back doesn't like me so much, but the work has been rewarding.

Like you I live in the north, Alaska. I write in several different genres as well.

I appreciate the invitation to, The Source Book Club, as I love to read. Overtime I hope to make new reading friends.
I began my writing career in YA fiction and eased into romance. However my love for thrillers and police procedural has gotten me dabbling in these areas.
My first self published book,The Living Miracle A Love Story, is set in a Dystopian world without a God. A young boy is given a doll believed to be his clone, a synthetic without life. God gives the cone life, now she is charged with sharing her story.
I enjoy reading romance, thrillers, Police procedurals, fantasy, and any story with a strong female protagonist. I also read non-fiction educational books on writing, science -with a preference to books about the brain and future technologies, Self improvement books and anything to do with Korea since I specialize in Asian men as my protagonists’ love interest.
I enjoy writing, reading, sewing, playing the piano though poorly, hiking with my dogs, riding my horses, painting especially with oils, and working in my Koi pond and garden.

What are my hobbies? Can I say coffee connoisseur? Does that count? Okay, maybe not a connoisseur, but I love my coffee. I read a lot when I'm not writing. My favorite book so far is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. And when I'm not reading, I watch movies (yes, with a nice cup of caramel vanilla cream coffee).
I'm looking forward to meeting new readers and having the chance to share my stories. Thank you so much for inviting me!

I am a Quillsman and a Gazer (writer and reader).
Give me a page-turner and I could care less about the genre. But, I suppose for intents and purposes, Science-Fantasy is my favorite since I'm locked into that particular placing at the moment.
My Hobbies include WRITING, publishing... script-writing.... writing... travel... and when I can - WRITING!
I look for depth in a book, some point of humanity with which I can identify or be educated about*. There's nothing like coming away from a book feeling changed.
I started with What If stories (Mind of the Man-Child), and after several Book One novels, my editor screamed for me to finish a thought. Since then, I've been going BEYOND THE OUTER RIM (under the pen-name of Reiter), and that saga is north of 2 million words. I believe I've got another 10 books to that thought before it's all said and done.
I think this is a good time and place to say THANK YOU to Ms. Cynthia Morgan for her invitation. I was in the middle of putting together a book-launch, so forgive my delay of response. And I'm looking forward to speaking with all of you, getting to know you, and see how we can go about our business of taking over the world!
Fare well, all souls here that we might me on another day share the feats of our follies.
Oh, and Reiter can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
* = YES, I ended a sentence with a preposition! Muaahaahahaahaaa, my editor isn't here to stop me!!!

LOL Oh dear...Not sure if thats good or bad or somewhere in between? Regardless, I'm glad you have a copy. Now GET READING ;) :)
And I can't wait to hear what you think!
And I can't wait to hear what you think!

My name’s Amy, and I’m both a reader and a writer!
As far as reading goes, I’m an obsessive book ingester. Lol. I read a book a week and have averaged around 50 books a year for… as long as I can remember! My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, and romance. It’s really the icing on the cake for me if the book blends those three genres.
Right now, I’m focusing heavily on Rom Coms for my Hot Girl Summer, which I never had as a teen and want to finally have as an adult. Lol.
As a writer, I have two self-published books out. Both of them are YA horror-dystopia (a term I 100% made up). Considering how much I read, it takes me forever to write anything. 😅 It try not to think about that, though.
I’m so glad to be here and can’t wait to get to know all of you!!

50 BOOKS?!?!
Most impressive! Good to meet you, Amy.
As for me, I'm on a personal mission to write 9 books in the next 2 years. I'm thinking I can do it since my best year was 7 titles added. We'll just have to see.

Hey there, Jo! (love the name btw)
It's good to meet you here in what seems to be a steadily growing group (fingers crossed). LOL on the language issues... and you're going to need to add the 'U' to 'favorite' to continue the evolution.
Stay Up, Stay Gold!

I'm the author of 11 books, 2 for adults and the rest middle grade in two different series. I also work as an editor/proofreader for indie publishers and a few individual authors who are prepping for submission or self-publishing.

When looking for a place to live, I suddenly discovered that "AC" over here is NOT Air Conditioning. Dryers are rare - so a nice feature is an airing cupboard. Made for a few weird conversations with the estate agents :)

In fellowship,
Victor

Sorry should have made that clearer. Next Chapter is indeed a publishing house. I publish novels with them and poetry/anthologies/flash fiction/photography under my self published imprint Kyrosmagica Publishing which means crystal magic.
Samyann Hello :) So glad youve joined. I look forward to reading some of your reviews and hope you'll enjoy the books and special teasers by all of our authors :)
Victor Hi!!! so glad to see you here. I can vouch for his writing, everyone! His books are fantastic! I can't wait to read some teasers and/or learn more about how you can up with them :)

Thank you, Cynthia! You are very kind and I appreciate your support! I also want to share with the group that you are a very talented author. Your lyrical voice and use of language is wonderful to read and always enjoyable!

I'm Elle Stockton, the author of three books in a series of fictional short stories. My latest book, "Not for Polite Society and Other Short Stories" was published May 14th.
< img src = " https://external-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/... " / >
I love watching 40's noir films. Reading short stories is a favorite pastime of mine.
My favorite genre is short stories, especially creepy tales.
I love many books, but grew up reading William S. Porter and Edgar Allan Poe. Plot twists, horror, and paranormal flash fiction are what I like to write.
I added a new bookshelf for Short Stories for the group, along with my latest book. I hope I didn't mess up the book list. If I did, I apologize.
I'm looking to read a book of short stories. Please hit me up for this!
Good to be here.
Elle :)

Looking forward to getting to know you!
The Four Horsemen of the SylverMoon

Author or Reader? I am an author. And honestly, at this juncture in my life, since I've published my first book back in 2020, I find myself more of a writer than a reader, with the mindset that I could be (and should be) writing my next novel in line with my free time rather than anything else.
Do you have any hobbies? Writing, lol ... and I am a travel enthusiast. I am also fairly active in fitness, and intend to pick up jiu jitsu again, as I used to be heavily into it.
What are your favorite genres? Fantasy and Sci Fi, but only the adult rated in those genres. I am not typically into YA, but I have found exceptions. In reference, I'm that guy that thinks Star Wars would actually be way more epic if they actually showed it the way I feel it should be, with some rated R style content, with the Sith acting how they actually would instead of it being diluted into PG by Disney.
What do you look for in a favourite book? Character development. World building is great, but it should NEVER distract or take away from what matters most, which to me, is the characters. I definitely adhere to incorporate this virtue into my own writing. I think a good book has several shades of grey in its characters, and also never let's you feels as if the heroes are invulnerable (I don't think its entirely wrong of me to say that I enjoy a good, unexpected character death). Furthermore, to take it a step further, I prefer it when the "heroes" and the "villains" are not so clear, and that all of the characters have realistic justifications for their actions, rather than the simple good vs evil outtake.
What are you looking forward to most from the book club? I am terribly uneducated in how to use Goodreads whatsoever. I would like to learn from other authors in how to use such a platform, how to attract more readers from my genre to give fair reviews, and to just generally talk with fellow self-published authors about their journeys and what they have learned on the marketing elements of the business.
Thank you Cynthia for inviting me to this group! I look forward to being as active as possible in the topics here and meeting everyone!
Ezekiel Hello ! Im so glad you've decided to join and do hope we can all up our GRs knowledge to help us market our books more advantageously ;)
As I read your Intro, I thought to myself that there are several great discussion opportunities right here! I totally agree with you about Star Wars. I think the best villain of the series was Darth Maul. He had so much potential and they killed him way too quickly!
If it's ok with you, I'd like to open a discussion using your comments on Character Development as the opener? There's a great deal to learn about this subject and I think it would be helpful for all.
Looking forward to getting to know you better through our club :)

And yes, I think that's a great discussion thread to start about character development. I would be happy to contribute a detailed post in it about my own methods I use, and see if that helps other authors that feel lacking in that category, or to perhaps bounce ideas off of each other.
I have quite a few interesting ways in which I develop world building, flesh out my characters, and even the way I do dialogue to keep things flowing and witty, when necessary. But I have a lot to learn, and constantly edit and critique myself as I evolve as an author for my future works.
I would love that. I'll set up the board and you can post to it with whatever you think would be helpful :)
TYSM!! :)
TYSM!! :)

Oh thank you! I hope you enjoy them :D I can't wait to add a 4th book to the series. It might be a bit though. I still have a lot to work out in my head, before I re-start the writing. Should be fun, though.
