Nick (minoshiro) | 46 comments I've been organizing this series of Collected stories by Philip Dick https://www.goodreads.com/series/3349...

Researched, separated wrong editions, combined the correct ones, added informative descriptions to most main editions. So far 4 volumes are pretty much done, with 5th being in progress.

Not sure what to do with the titles. Editions are titled very inconsistently, take a look at Volume 2: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Example of volume 2 editions:
1. The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick 2: We Can Remember it for You Wholesale
2. The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Volume 2: Second Variety
3. The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick Volume Two: Adjustment Team
4. We Can Remember It for You Wholesale and Other Classic Stories
5. Second Variety: Volume Two Of The Collected Stories (Collected Short Stories of Philip K. Dick)

Am I right to think it should be changed to:
1. We Can Remember it for You Wholesale (The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, #2)
2. Second Variety (The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, #2)
3. Adjustment Team (The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, #2)
4. We Can Remember It for You Wholesale and Other Classic Stories (The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, #2)
5. Second Variety (The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, #2)

Is the rule to always keep only the "base" part of the title and move series/volume info into parenthesis? But then, these books are predominantly referred to as "The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick Volume X: BASE TITLE". Is it right to reformat the titles in this case?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Is this a valid series by GR standards?

quote:
"Imprints and other unrelated collections of works (usually by multiple authors) are not series.
To be a series, books should have characters and/or universes in common. In the case of imprints and other non-series collections, it is common for some of these books to be published under numerous other imprints as well"

1. I don't understand what an imprint is. DIY self-publication?

2. The volumes were published and republished multiple times as single logical unit - collection of stories split in 5 parts.

3. This author has trillions of medium-small works, many of which are incorrectly combined. Having "The Collected stories..." as a series is the only way to bring order.

Scott | 9446 comments These stories are unconnected and do not qualify as a series by GR definition.

An imprint is something like SF Masterworks, that a particular publisher might release works under, but which does not apply to every edition of a work.

Nick (minoshiro) | 46 comments In this case my question about title format is reduntant.
Will just double-check whether they correspond to the titles publishers used on their websites / volume covers.

I kindly ask that the series not be removed. It's useful to have these volumes linked, as well as have them displayed on author's page for discovery pursose. They comprise over 120 small works, otherwise scattered and disorganized.

Nick (minoshiro) | 46 comments so, for instance, make a list for each of the main publishers? like this one https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

The series does not meet our criteria, so it needs to be deleted.
