Will be interesting to see. I understand Newsom has previously been interviewed on Fox. I though DeSantis was losing in the polls?
It's going to be interesting to see if Ron fares better against the enemy than he does his own side. If he can't put Newsom in his place, I wash my hands of him.
Despite heeding Philip's and Papaphilly's warnings about unsavoury comments, I'm thinking of lending my support to RFK Jr. I'll contact the MSM about this when I've reached a definite decision but am sharing my thoughts with you, my friends, first.
Philip, I urge you to consider doing the same. The most important issue facing the World right now is the health of the planet and RFK Jr's environmental credentials are 2nd to none.
Put your thoughts on covid vaccines and other issues aside to consider the bigger picture.

I'll take another look but I'm not expecting to be impressed. Perhaps his statement are meant to attract Trump supporters?
With Biden unaware of who he is and Trump on the loose with an unauthorised pistol, these are dangerous times.

I haven't watched any of last night's debate (unless Hindus are right, we only get 1 life) but had a quick scan of BBC, Guardian and Hill articles ((yes, I know I'm a sucker for punishment). Saw NYT's meta description but couldn't access article as behind paywall.
All centre or left-leaning outlets. Takeaways...
Winners: Haley and DeSantis
Also, Christie emphasised that he has a great sense of humour.
Losers: Ramaswamy and maybe Pence
Anyone see it and have any thoughts?

Wasn't Rep. Raskin one of the Dems who told us all that Hunter Biden's laptop was disinformation planted by the Russians?
Hasn't he, on multiple occasions since then, insisted that the government needs the power to suppress "disinformation" on social media?
Why should we trust anything that comes out of his mouth?

I don't know. I do know that Hunter has sued several others for misuse of his data, (not laptop) which will require him to disclose what the data was in court rather leaks to media.

To quote Papaphilly, "wait and see."

It was a room full of pick-mes without a good reason to pick anyone of them.

I've been listening to various interviews with RFK Jr. I don't agree with everything he says but my overriding impression of him is what a lovely man. He's devoid of spin and seems able to give honest, well-thought-out answers to questions on any topic, while refusing to indulge in personal attacks on Biden and Trump.
Watched a political discussion on ABC (or some such channel) that covered him too. The Dem on the panel basically said that they consider him an irrelevance and no threat to Biden, before going on to say that the day before he announces his intention to run independently, the Dems will launch an unprecedented personal attack on him. So why bother if he's no threat?
The reason is that with huge campaign funds being donated to him from right across the political spectrum, of course RFK Jr is a threat! He's also an extremely refreshing change from the wretch Biden and gunslinging Trump. Here's hoping to him breaking up the tired, old 2 party system. Cheers, Robert 🍺

He claimed that 'protestors' had 'attacked' his car during a campaign visit which had led to a protest 'by two boys and a small dog' okay I made that up like he made up the story...
According to police and the woman, she was backing her car out and hit his which had no one in it at the time. She had no idea whose car it was or who he was. The driver was released with a summons for 'unsafe backing'
Perhaps the candidate should do some of his own safe backing...

Thanks for posting this, J. Much appreciated 👍
Next year's election will be one of unprecedented negative campaigning by the DNC. If you think they've gone to town on Trump, wait until you see what they have planned for RFK Jr.
I don't have time to investigate the countless he said, she said nonsense, and the ensuing counter claims.
Beau judges a man (or woman) on what he personally hears them say, and always within context. He is only interested in positive campaigning.
Having listened to numerous speeches by the likely 3 main candidates, this is how I'm left feeling...
When I listen to a Biden speech, I picture skateboarders, dressed in black hooded tops, setting fire to hardworking Americans' private property, to a backdrop of gangster rap music.
When I listen to Trump, I picture bikers, zooming along the freeway, guns and bottles of JD in their side saddles, mini General Lee flags flying from the backs of their bikes, to a backdrop of thrash metal music.
But when I listen to an RFK Jr speech, I picture a Golden Eagle flying across a clear blue sky. The eagle takes in breathtaking American landscapes, and then passes above 4th generation farmers tending their land, before swooping above cities, where he admires hardworking blue collar men and women, putting in their 9-5 shifts in order to look after their loved ones, without state assistance. Elvis and Sinatra croon in the background.
Americans, picture these images throughout the next year. Be sure not to listen to hearsay. Judge the candidates on what you personally hear each of them say and the way they conduct their campaigns.
Do you want some negative wretch sniping away at his rivals without anything positive to say about himself, or do you want a man with an inspiring vision for your country?
You decide.

Lord Benjamine Disraeli (Former Prime Minister of England/Author) 1804 - 1881

Jim, why do I keep thinking it was Mark Twain who said that, especially when you've told me before it was Disraeli and it's one of my favourite all-time quotes?
It's a favourite quote because it's true. It's perceptive. It's on the money.
I used to study statistics and I can reveal to group members that it can be used to paint false pictures of reality. Stats can be manipulated for political purposes. It's why I found the 'follow the science' narrative so frustrating during covid. Without context stats are meaningless.
That's a very kind thing to say, Nik. Thank you. America is a great country, populated by great people. Unfortunately, the US state hasn't always given them what they deserve. If the next election is a Biden Trump rerun, the people certainly aren't getting what they deserve. Fresh blood and new ideas are needed. That's why I'll be supporting Kennedy 2024 free of charge, from my modest, but comfortable and tastefully furnished, office in the heart of the UK.
Should Robert be reading this, now the vaccine restrictions are over, I'd be delighted to fly out to the US on an all expenses paid trip, to help with campaigning on the ground. All that's required is a direct message and a telegraphic transfer of funds.

Currently, the US State Dept. is trying to confirm whether US citizens have been killed and/or taken hostage in Israel. If it is confirmed, Uncle Joe will become a new Jimmy Carter (sans morality and competency) on the eve of an election cycle. His only hope will be to appear strong. That means committing the USS Gerald R. Ford and her battle group (already on route) to conducting combat operations in order to rescue any American hostages. In short, if they were stupid enough to take Americans, then a fleet which is capable of depopulating many nations you could name will be unleashed on c. 2 million people fenced into only c. 141 square miles.
Good point, J. Replace fresh 'blood' with fresh 'pair of eyes'.
Appalling what's unfolding over there. The attack on Israeli civilians, and potentially foreigners, was evil. Governments obviously have a duty of care to their own citizens/ nationals but got to be careful not to unleash indiscriminate revenge for both practical and ethical reasons. It's going to be v challenging in an area so small.
Domestic politics and aspiring candidates aside, which of your last 2 presidents would you most trust to handle this difficult international situation?
I've got to be honest, for all of his bluster and confrontational language, Trump would fill me with more confidence handling a situation like this.

If you think Trump would have handled this well I think you need to check his record. Can't remember his peace plan for Palestine/Israel. Oh that's right, he sent Jared to Saudi and he came back with $2b. That's of course after he gave info to Russia about Israel intel operations.

An ideal candidate for President.
As for RFK - he's doing his independent candidate launch. Some interesting statements already including blaming CIA for Wuhan COVID leak... He's also called for US military funding to be cut...

Notice how comfortable he seems? It's almost like they're the mirror image of the Clintons. Where Bill is ridiculously charismatic and Hillary is a political grind; for the DeSantis family Casey is comfortable in front of the cameras and Ron is the one who knows how to work the system.
J, I remember you saying this about DeSantis before. He strikes me as a highly competent politician, slightly lacking in charisma. He's also confrontational, which is probably not what America needs right now. Along with my positive enthusiasm for RFK Jr, those are the main reasons I've jumped ship.
That said, he did an excellent job lifting covid restrictions early. People who believe in Western values will always be grateful to him for taking that stance against tyranny.
I saw the court case mentioned by Philip. Calls for openess and transparency on covid stats coming from the side who dreamt up the with not of counting method, gave financial incentives for reporting deaths as covid, and then ended up adding victims of the restrictions to the overall death toll is beyond parody.
I've just finished listening to the RFK Jr speech. Absolutely inspiring! Kept my attention throughout, and got better and better as it went on.
Needless to say, the topics Philip mentioned weren't discussed, as anyone who listens to the speech will tell you. I will offer my full reflections on it tomo.
A final thought for today...
Americans, here, in the UK, we are in exactly the same position as you. The governing party have an abysmal record. You never hear their agents try and defend their record because one cannot defend the indefensible. Instead, they will try and pretend they're as disillusioned as you are but the minute you suggest an alternative person/ party to govern, they will try, by hook or by crook, to shoot your suggestion down in flames.
The reason for this is simple: they want you disillusioned enough with everybody that you decide not to vote because if you do vote, you risk upsetting the status quo they are secretly trying to maintain.

Yesterday's Kennedy speech was everything one could hope for from a campaign launch, in that it clearly set out where he stands in the big picture. As succinctly as possible:
1. He's for people like you and I, rather than the big corporations and powerful vested interests. He's for small business owners, those who live pay cheque to pay cheque, and other forgotten, marginalised groups. He talked about joining him in a new Declaration of Independence from the captured institutions.
2. Unity - bringing people together using what connects us, rather than what divides us. An observation that the elite seeks to divide so it can continue to rule unchallenged.
3. Reminiscent of Jim Vuksic's latest blog - listening to those who hold different opinions and a willingness to change one's mind. This shows remarkably strong character and leadership qualities, completely at odds with the current weaklings, who like to talk tough but then revert to type.
4. Using references to the US Constitution and great figures from the past as inspiration for an exciting NEW path for the nation, in stark contrast to Trump's 'Make America Great Again' slogan, which yearned for the past.
5. An uplifting message, full of hope and positivity, rather than the hate and negativity of the 2 other major candidates.
This guy is the real deal. He gave a very thoughtful take on the state of modern America and how to improve it. But he will need to be strong because by directly challenging the elite, they will now seek to destroy him and everything that he stands for.
God Bless America.

Mike Pence - too, but he's probably past his zenith and lacks a lot of charisma.
Don't think Nikki will gain much support though, when so many are locked on Trump. And maybe many unspokenly still feel that it's "men's business". Wrongly, in my opinion.

Was better than I expected. According to twitter it's caused considerable concern in Republican ranks not just Democrat.
Nik, Haley is a strong candidate. Surely people can't be put off by her gender in this day and age?
Philip, he is attracting campaign funds from donors who are both traditional Democrats and Republicans. There was an eclectic group of people at the event, ranging from patriotic veterans to left of centre students, and everyone in between.
He needs to take votes from both parties to win. My gut feeling is he'll take more the Dems because that's where his roots are, but he'll appeal to many right wingers too. Setting himself up as just a spoiler is pointless.
This is the biggest battle - the mindset of the voters, who, like us, are conditioned by the media to think only 1 of 2 parties can win. But no votes are cast until polling day, so it has to be a message of game on, in it to win it.

He has ceded that the DNC was not going to give him a fair shot during the primaries, this election cycle. And by jumping ship he has declared that he will not be a good boy and wait his turn. Now, he has to get his name onto the ballots in enough states to possibly win the Electoral College. How much push back do you think he'll get in DNC enclaves like New Jersey, New York, Illinois, and California?
An interesting question is whether Republicans will help him get onto the ballot in swing states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. I'm sure they're already designing surveys to figure out if he'll peel off enough Dem voters to make any Republican losses irrelevant.
And because I know Beau is dreaming of it, I have no idea if Tulsi will run as his VP. He has to make it to summer 2024 before that's a real issue.
Saw that, Philip. Similar scenario with Trump, if I remember rightly? Christmas Dinner may be awkward if they talk politics.
J, even with my more limited knowledge of the US political mechanism, it's a fascinating proposition. Way I see it is the MAGA crowd and the progressives have already made up their minds. I believe, despite Biden's 2020 victory, the hard-core of the former is bigger than the latter, so RFK Jr will hurt the Dems more but he has to aim for the middle ground to be in the mix.
He doesn't need to ditch the conspiracy angles (I agree with a lot of it), but he has to keep focusing on the mainstream issues - economy, social issues, foreign policy, etc, cause that's what interests most people. The MSM are going to crucify him no matter what, so best to go down t'internet route - Joe Rogan podcasts, etc, for publicity. See he's recently spoken with Elon too. Tulsi in there would be a dream ticket.
If American group members wonder why I support him, it's simple. Historically, I would have usually voted Democrat, but as a small c (but tolerant) conservative, the progressives are my no 1 foe. That is why I favour DeSantis, Haley, etc (and even Trump) over the Biden crew, but an old school slightly left of centre ground candidate is my preferred choice.
I've been monitoring Newsom lately. He's clearly now the heir apparent. He seems to be trying to position himself closer to the centre ground. He's going to need to rewrite some serious political history to succeed.
I don't wish anyone ill health but should Biden not make it to the next election, the Dems are in trouble. Even though we've been disappointed by the GOP debates, they seem to have far more strength in depth.

This is why I find allegations of election interference by the Evil Orange Man to be hilarious.

You think so? :) We cannot know what people harbor as innermost beliefs as opposed to outspoken platitudes
Thanks, Scout. Forgive the length of my comments, as I don't even live in the US, but I find your election exciting. It's exciting because there's a choice.
Over here, we have a choice between 2 cheeks of the same backside, and the people are unlikely to ever choose anything different. It is boring.
I don't expect to agree with everything a party or candidate says but I agree with very little of anything our lot say. For this reason, I'll probably just vote for who I believe cares about our constituency the most, regardless of the finer detail of their policies.
After all, manifestos don't seem to be worth the paper they're written on, so best just to put faith in whoever appears to be the most well-meaning, honourable character.

J, I watched the clip 😍
With all the claims and counter claims about Trump and Biden, I honestly don't know what to believe.
I would guess both, and probably most ex presidents, have had some crooked dealings. That's life at the top for you.
On Trump, the sheer scale of the charges against him makes it difficult to argue in his favour, particularly when one has little inclination to investigate, limited access to evidence, poor understanding of the processes, and only a small amount of time to digest it all.
Therefore, rightly or wrongly, I just go with my gut instinct. Do I trust Trump? No. But I trust him more than Biden.
I can't offer evidence-based analysts like Philip any reasons for this or credible responses to his detailed posts, it's simply how I feel about the whole situation.

Nik, Beau says what he likes and likes what he says. No platitudes, just opinions in this rare free space.
The so-called 'battle of the sexes' is an absurdity because man can't live without woman and woman can't live without man. The only time I would ever criticise or look down on the fairer sex is if my dinner was late.
If someone won't vote for Haley just because she's a woman, that someone is missing out on a potentially excellent candidate. They need to wake up and smell the coffee, which has hopefully been served to them before it's gone cold.

On the Democrat side, Biden is the man right now. A sitting President is formidable to knock off as the standard bearer. Newsome is good looking enough and has California, but he has lots of problems with how California is run. RFK Jr. is running a quixotic campaign. It remains t be seen if he really runs as an outsider. if he does, he could kill off Biden. I bet he gets bought off like Bernie.

Not really,

Papaphilly, I loved your use of the word 'quixotic'. It was a little bit cheeky but quite endearing.
However, don't fall into the trap of mistaking brave visionaries for nut jobs.
When answers given by authorities don't match what people's own senses tell them is real, then it's only natural that conspiracy theories will arise, some of which are far more convincing than 'official' narratives.
The official explanation of the murder of JFK, for one, had more holes in it than a sieve. It was clearly BS.
