although you mention Chicago, it is actually Illinois that is number one sending politicians to prison. New Jersey is getting ready to send our Senior Senator to prison for corruption.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I'll give you the eating pets accusation, Ian, although there were reports that this happened, but no proof. You seem to think Trump lies constantly. If he does, you should be able to cite numerous examples. Can you do that?

message 1907: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments The best I can do is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_o...

According to the Washington Post it was 21 per day. Given the Washington Post is probably Dem oriented, they have probably over stretched. The Toronto Post has it significantly smaller, but still a very large number.

Even this abstract https://academic.oup.com/book/36813/c.... is interesting. Oxford University will not be embedded in US politics.

Why don't you just google it. I did and the listings got on for over 10 pages. Then again I doubt anyone can keep up.. he's been lying since the '60's. Trump would not know the truth is it walked up and BIT him. He's a grifter.. and that's an insult to grifting.

Don't assign homework..

message 1909: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Wow! Arguing whether a NY real estate developer or a lifelong politician is a bigger liar.

Seriously, in less than two weeks we'll be choosing between a giant orange braggart and history's worst affirmative action hire; also between a hillbilly weened on Mountain Dew and an albino Elmer Fudd.

"But the Evil Orange Man lied!"

They all lie constantly.

The question we are avoiding is, "Which candidate would be a competent and conscientious steward of our lives, liberties, and properties?"

Unlikely to be tested. It is almost inconceivable anyone could occupy it. It is too big and too far away

message 1916: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 510 comments The Harris plagiarism reporting came from a few sources, mostly Christopher Rufo, who is a very thorough journalist.Working with investigative "plagiarism hunter", Stefan Weber, he found passages in Harris' work taken from, an NBC news report, a John Jay College press release, Wikipedia. and a couple other sources, all of them published before Harris' book, and without any attribution.
These are not all that high profile in terms of publication but sheesh - Smart on Crime and she's not smart enough to do her own writing? Not smart enough to know you attribute what you quote, something you are supposed to learn in high school.

I feel like the one redeeming quality I have to give Trump is his ability to talk.

message 1924: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments The gift of gab is indeed a powerful political ability. Beyond that, can you name any moral position claimed by his opponents, of which the left have not debased themselves?

The Dems claim Trump will pursue political prosecutions, while the Dems indict Trump and his allies.

The Dems claim that Trump will censor your speech, while Democrats write op-eds on reining in Musk's X.

The Dems claim Trump will take away women's autonomy over their bodies, after the Biden administration tried to enforce vaccine mandates.

The Dems claim Trump is a Nazi, while standing with people chanting, "...from the river to the sea...".

message 1925: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Kiri, I was speaking to Ian, not you. In reply to J.'s post about Kamala's interview with Bret Baier, I agreed that she doesn't give straight answers to questions. In reply, Ian tried to blame this on Trump by bringing up cat eaters (which I agreed I couldn't find evidence for) and Kamala having to "deal with his lies" (plural). It's not "homework" to ask someone to explain a statement. And I'd ask what any of that had to do with Kamala's inability to give straight answers to direct questions, as she failed to do in that interview.

message 1926: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Sai, I'd amend that to say "his ability to talk about how he will solve problems." He explains his plans about immigration, the economy, foreign policy, supporting the police and the military, improving education.

message 1927: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Barbara, I saw that, too. Not smart. J. previously posted a link to Chris Williamson's interview with Eric Weinstein, who said, "Kamala's a lot smarter than you're giving her credit for." Here's a 3-minute clip from that interview if you want to see Weinstein's argument and decide if it's cogent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDX5q...

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Scout wrote: "Kiri, I was speaking to Ian, not you. In reply to J.'s post about Kamala's interview with Bret Baier, I agreed that she doesn't give straight answers to questions. In reply, Ian tried to blame this..."

"what any of that had to do with Kamala's inability to give straight answers to direct questions". What it has to do with it, as I thought I tried to explain, is if she makes a statement, it opens up the debate for more Trump lies and she ends up looking defensive, which is not. Presidential. If Trump is not prepared to keep to facts, Kamala has the right not to give him an opening.

Presidential. If Trump is not prepared to keep to facts, Kamala has the right not to give him an opening." That's a lame excuse. She's not tough enough to state her policies clearly and to defend them, regardless of what Trump says. She's playing defense - not a good look for a presidential candidate.

I noticed certain papers are avoiding endorsements. I also noticed their staffs losing their s*** plus MSNBC and CNN are doubling down on the TDS.

I wonder if that behavior is connected to the arsons committed upon ballot drop boxes.

I think we have a lot more bad road to travel before we begin to see smooth pavement.

message 1939: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Papa, I actually am still surprised that censorship has become okay. It's against everything this country was founded on. seems realistic, considering that there have already been two assassination attempts on Trump. I know we're definitely not having a Jan 6 repeat if Harris wins instead of Trump. I think the violence will stick to things like those ballots burning.

She hardly plays defense. She was a prosecutor---she is very passionate when talking about Trump's wrongdoings. If you remember the debate Trump was actually put on the defensive for a small stretch.

message 1943: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Have you watched her interviews on 60 Minutes or the interview with Bret Baier? Take the time to watch if you want to base your opinions on fact. I'll post them here. She avoids giving direct answers to all questions. It would be funny if she weren't running for president.

Fair question: How much longer until the governments of Australia, Canada, and the UK decide that kind of "hate speech" cannot be legally consumed in their jurisdictions?

message 1945: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan My understanding is that the UK is already there, and Australia is trying to put in place a 'misinformation,' law that makes the .gov and official (legacy) media protected entities while everyone else gets censored.

Hence the importance of the current US presidential elections which will set the future of Western Civ, not just the future of the US.

message 1950: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments I'm reading The Anti-Federalist Papers and the Constitutional Convention Debates. Much of the progressive agenda seems like the utopian elements of the Virginia Plan taken to absurdist extremes. For instance, Ben Franklin argued against paying elected government members for their terms of service because doing so risked creating a class of people who produce nothing but regulation and largesse...

Sometimes, the wisdom of our ancestors is disheartening.
