Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Graeme, I get your point in #1760. Shenanigans definitely got Kamala to where she is. And I think there was a Democrat plan to get Biden off the ticket with that early debate. They knew he was incompetent and unable to debate. What convinces me that it was planned is the 180 by the MSM that occurred even during the debate. I was shocked as I watched it happen. They turned on him en masse immediately, after having covered up for him for 3 years. That smacks of a coordinated behind-the-scenes plan to oust him and get Kamala in there before the election. Those tricky Democrats. Joe didn't see it coming, but I bet he sees now how it was done. Poor Uncle Joe, betrayed by his own party.

Graeme Rodaughan Big debate on Tuesday.

What do you expect?

message 1757: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments I expect to have a hangover come Monday morning.

message 1758: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I don't expect fairness, as Stephanopoulis worked for Hillary and is a hard-core Democrat elitist. Kamala is being prepped, and I expect some rehearsed one-liners to shut Trump up. I also expect her to pull the typical politician move of being asked a question and, instead of answering it, replying with an unrelated and canned response. We'll see. It could go either way, depending on whether Trump can focus on his policies instead of personal attacks and complaints about 2020. Since she hasn't made her policies public, she has him at a disadvantage. Will she finally reveal her agenda? I doubt it. The only sure thing is that the debate will be interesting. And, J., have a bloody mary for that hangover :-) I'll need one, too.

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I half expect one of them to crash and burn, but not sure which one. Harris should be forced to tell what she stands for, but not sure that will eventuate.

message 1760: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments The other question is, what effect will Dick Cheney have from saying he will vote Democrat? It looks like Cheney has had a spat with Trump

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Ian wrote: "The other question is, what effect will Dick Cheney have from saying he will vote Democrat? It looks like Cheney has had a spat with Trump"

It is very personal and has been for a long time. Cheney will try and peel away votes from Trump with this and cause undue pain by allowing the Democrats the ability to say "See
even a true conservative hates Trump". Cheney's daughter was one of the ones on the Jan 6 committee and that cost her the election later. I am not sure if Cheney carries any weight anymore.

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Ian wrote: "I half expect one of them to crash and burn, but not sure which one. Harris should be forced to tell what she stands for, but not sure that will eventuate."

As for the debate, it can only hurt her. She is not all that great and will break out into nervous laughter. If the press asks fair and hard questions, then it might go truly badly for her. I fully expect Trump to ravage her on the border and economy.

message 1763: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 510 comments Interesting that the democrats had tried to keep RFK off ballots when they thought it would take votes from Biden. Now that he's allied with Trump, they want him on ballots because they think he will draw from Trump. A dispute between RFK and the dems - he wanted to be taken off ballots, they want him kept on - resulted in rulings that he should be removed from the ballots. But on the other side, very liberal candidates like Jill Stein and Cornell West have had to fight the democrats to stay on the ballots, and so far, they have been able to stay on in several states.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Haven’t watched “another orgasm of democracy”, but would like to hear from those who did. What are your impressions? Our media suggests that Kamala performed better, but that’s just as good an opinion as any

message 1765: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Perhaps the moderators won the debate.

message 1766: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Stupidly, Trump took the Kamala's bait on rally size.

The moderators seemed to be backing Kamala. I wonder if that has something to do with ABC being owned by Disney?

message 1767: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 510 comments It had everything to do with it. In my area, the Direct TV providers have had Disney owned channels blacked out while they renegotiate the contract. I saw an article - and somewhere on Twitter/X - that Disney offered to let Disney-owned ABC broadcast the debate. I don't think Direct TV took the offer, so even though there were only a couple sponsored breaks, those ads did not air on the national network.
The moderators definitely favored Kamala, not only in the questions but in the lack of follow ups. Muir even went back to Trump's Jan 6 speech and deliberately omitted when Trump said "peacefully and patriotically" - glad Trump called him on it.
But Trump was wiling to take a break from an active rally and interview schedule into a forum when he knew up front it was 3 against one. She does one CNN interview, talks for maybe a total of 15 minutes then holes up for a solid week of rehearsal.

message 1768: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I disagree that the moderators favoured Kamala. If they did, then on at least two occasions they asked a penetrating question, Trump flew off at a tangent, and had they been on Kamala's side they would have pressed for an answer to the question, which they shoulod have done even if they weree totally neutral. My reading of this was they were more incompetent than favouring.

message 1769: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments The ABC moderators were biased, as are all major networks here. The moderators fact checked Trump five times during the debate and didn't once fact check Kamala's prevarications. Imagine Kamala debating Trump on Fox News (which she refused to do), and you'll get an idea of the guts it took for Trump to debate her in such a hostile environment. Whatever you think about him, he has fortitude and determination and will face any challenge. Those are traits required of a president, and Kamala doesn't have them. She's been hiding from the press, done no town halls, one short edited interview, no press conferences. She's being allowed to do what Biden did: circumvent the conventional campaign process in which you face us head on and tell us who you are, lay out and explain and defend your platform, and convince us to vote for you. Why hasn't she done that?

message 1770: by Ian (new)

Shots fired. Seemingly nowhere near Trump. The story is mangled, but the link provided actually states the only shots fired were by the Secret Service. All of this was near a golf course that Trump frequents, but Trump seemingly was nowhere near it. We need more information.

Question: could this be a political stunt to get more sympathy for Trump?

message 1779: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan On a 2nd point, an ABC whistleblower has come forward with a signed affadavit alleging KH and the ABC cheated in the recent debate.

"ABC News whistleblower swears under penalty of perjury that the Kamala Harris campaign dictated the terms of the questions during the presidential debate.

Furthermore, the Harris campaign insisted upon live "fact checking" of Donald Trump during the debate.

ABC News "fact checked" Trump at least five times and did not fact check Harris once, despite the Democratic candidate telling provable lies, such as the "fine people hoax" and the blo*dbath hoax."

The whistleblower signed the affidavit in New York and has sent a copy to Speaker Mike Johnson, the notarized document states.

The unnamed individual states that he or she is in possession of secret recordings that will prove that ABC News rigged the presidential debate."

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Russia Gate proved to be a hoax perpetrated by the Democrats, which they never admitted to or apologized for. Democrats have used lawfare to prosecute Trump in order to prevent him from running for president. All their efforts have failed because they were invalid. There have been two assassination attempts. And now we find out that the debate was rigged against Trump. Is anyone surprised? The MSM is not a free press; it's biased and has become a propaganda machine for the Democrats. Joe was protected by them, and now Kamala is their darling -- no questions asked -- after they criticized her for being an ineffective VP.

What are the Democrats so afraid of that they would use any underhanded means to prevent Trump from becoming president? I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear from you guys.

message 1783: by J. (last edited Sep 15, 2024 07:38PM) (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Russia-gate was the whole Steele Dossier BS which triggered the Mueller investigation. It turns out that it was paid for by the Clinton campaign, given to the FBI by a Clinton crony, and is proven BS.

The "Fine People" thing was a line cherry picked by the MSM in order to smear Trump. Harris and Biden have both attacked Trump with it. But even Snopes has called it BS
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/tru...

The "Bloodbath" thing is another cherry picked line. In a stump speech, Trump referred to an economic bloodbath if the current administration's policies were allowed to continue through reelection. The MSM has portrayed it as a call to violence.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Are you ever going to realize what's going on here, Ian?

My question to all of you is still: What are the Democrats so afraid of that they would use any underhanded means to prevent Trump from becoming president? I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear from you guys.

message 1785: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Scout, I ad heard of the Steele dossier, but I hadn't heard it referred to as Russia Gate. The other two had not made an impression here but they don't seem to be that important. The media playing politics is bad, but Fox news has been doing it for some time.

The Democrats don't have to be afraid. It is their job to try and get their candidate elected.

message 1786: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Ian, the new golden age of yellow journalism should worry you far more than seems to be the case. The USA fields the most devastatingly powerful military which the world has ever seen, and about half of us have been driven to near psychosis by a constant diet of journalistic malfeasance.

message 1792: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments In the USA, it's a bit of a Fudd gun. They started turning up as cheap surplus in the 1980s. Through the 1990s, you could buy an SKS and a sealed can of ammo for $100, and have a workable deer hunter.

Now, they are overpriced gun show fodder pushed by old guys who clone them into Dragunovs with cheap Chinese optics and furniture.

message 1793: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Graeme, I hope your predictions are incorrect, but I wouldn't be surprised. Trump's gotten lucky twice. People like Hillary keep putting a target on him. She was on the Rachel Maddow show promoting her new memoir and made unsubstantiated claims about how dangerous Trump is, his danger to our country and the world. She talks about Trump demonizing immigrants while at the same time demonizing him. She even had the nerve to go on and on about Russian interference in our elections when it has been proved that the whole Trump-Russia collusion scam began with her. She still wants us to believe that Russia was the reason she lost in 2016. She just can't get over it. https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/w...
