Good to see you participating in the democratic process, J. What are boosters?

I'm beginning to wonder if my conspiracy theory about Trump being prevented from running will prove wrong. I hope so. He seems to be gathering a real head of steam. VP pick could seal it, as long as there are no more DNC underhand shenanigans. Any ideas who it might be?

message 1002: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7977 comments The "boosters" are campaign volunteers who hang out at polling places and hand out flyers while they praise their candidates. By law, they have to remain a certain distance from the entrance, and they can't bribe people.

The Dems aren't done, yet.

Trump's VP is best left to Vegas odds makers until he announces.

Good news for the US, bad news for the Swamp, but I still wouldn't discount her until election day, in case the swamp has some more dirty tricks to prevent Trump running.

Out of curiosity, if Trump is prevented from running AFTER picking a running mate, who would run for president? Would it automatically be the running mate or would there be a new GOP contest?

He is going to be the choice unless he dies or is disabled. If this happens, it depends on when it happens. It probably is Nikki Hailey, but it could be a brokered convention.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Can you give info about a brokered convention, Papa?

And Beau said, "as long as there are no more DNC underhand shenanigans." It seems to me that they never end, instigated by the party that is so worried about Trump undermining democracy. Have you noticed that the Democrats accuse others of doing exactly what they're doing themselves?

Graeme Rodaughan What's the thinking here regarding Hillary C as a replacement for Biden?

message 1011: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7977 comments Parachuting HRC into the Dem presidential slot could very well kick off the Boogaloo.

message 1012: by [deleted user] (new)

If they did that, Graeme, they'd be knocked out by a boomerang, launched by themselves.

They have 3 possible cards to play:

1. Prevent Trump running.
2. Hope Biden lives and if he doesn't, pretend he's still alive.
3. Parachute in Michelle Obama.

Only the first one is guaranteed to stop Trump becoming President again, but the cost will be that 1/2 the population will know their country's entire political and legal system is a sham. Eventually, this will result in the country's breakdown.

Graeme, although I've always respected you and Adrian, after just watching a game of Aussie Rules, I've now fallen in love with Australia again.

Anyway, I don't discount what you said. In fact, when Biden appeared on our 6 o' clock news, Mrs Beau, who is an expert in organic skin care, said he didn't look real. She thought there could be wires and microchips hidden below the surface of his skin. She even mooted the possibility of him being a robot. Who am I to dispute trusted, expert opinion?

This possibility is worrying for America, and for wider mankind. The sooner the 6'3, 230lb, A-grade physical specimen, President Donald J Trump, is back in power, the better for all of us..

Having just analysed Graeme's compelling evidence showing that the POTUS is a meth head, I'm gravely concerned. A drug addict has his finger on the nuclear button. He needs to resign immediately and go into rehab, in the free state of Florida.

Who is supplying him, that is the question? 'Walter' Clinton? 'Jessie' Pelosi? Or Newsom's ruthless cartel?

Forget Sleepy Joe, Creepy Joe and Uncle Joe. Now it's Breaking Biden - a danger to all clean living, God fearing Americans.

A brokered convention is one where no candidate receives enough delegate votes to win the nomination on the first ballot. If no candidate gets enough votes to win the nomination, it goes to a floor vote. At that point the party bosses get together and try to hammer out a deal on the candidates. This is where the Super Delegates the Democrats have come into play. They do not vote on the first ballot, but then on the second ballot they are allowed. A Super Delegate is nothing more than an undeclared delegate to any one candidate.

I would suspect it is a candidate with the most votes already, but it can be anyone. So the thought is that Gavin Newsom could be the candidate at the convention if Biden fails to live or drops out for whatever reason.

I have been saying exactly what you just wrote. This is going to be a nail biter. It is a debacle, nobody can beat Trump in the Republicans, but they very same candidates ALL beat Biden. Trump is the one candidate the can unite the Democrats against him to vote. The one policy to watch against the Republicans is the abortion issue. I think it is going to bite them badly.

We are ten months out from the general election. This is normal for us. Nobody gets replaced, they are the standard bearer and nobody is going to replace an incumbent. However, if there was a good candidate and that candidate start to run away with the nomination process, then I could have seen Joe go at that point. That did happen in 1968.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Lots of interesting stuff here. First, Graeme, please don't hex us by even mentioning Hillary. If I had to watch and listen to her for 4 years, I'd be constantly depressed and annoyed.

And, Beau, Michelle has said she won't run. Anyone who read her autobiography as I did (I was curious about what she was thinking when in the White House) would know that she didn't want Barack to run, doesn't like Washington politics and having her freedom curtailed by it, and wouldn't voluntarily go back there.

message 1037: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I watched Biden's speech, and he jumped the low bar I set for him by not becoming completely lost (although he teetered on the brink a couple of times). He spoke so fast that it did seem he was on something, and I'd like to know what they gave him. Whom do you guys think his speech was aimed at? Conservative or liberal Democrats? And was he trying to unify the country, as he promised to do in his campaign speeches?

Concerning the robot theory, that's not why he looks the way he does. If you think back, every time he knows he's going to be on camera for any length of time, he has several days beforehand when he disappears from view. I think this is when he has botox and other cosmetic treatments to make him look younger - but they've started making him look unnatural instead.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments Thanks, Beau and Papa, for explaining a brokered convention. What would have to occur for Democrats and/or Republicans to have a brokered convention this year?

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments "The U.S. Constitution specifies in clear language the qualifications required to hold the office of the presidency. In Section 1, Clause 5 of Article II, it states: “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

These three requirements – natural-born citizenship, age, and residency – are the only specifications set forth in the United States’ founding document."

Trump in a cell doesn't disqualify him.

message 1044: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments He can unify Americans by legalizing amphetamine and giving out some :)

message 1045: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7977 comments You know how America leads the Free World in prison population and how those prisoners are disproportionately black? That is in no small part due to the Crime Bill which established mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes and set punishments an order of magnitude more draconian for crack than for cocaine. Joe Biden used to brag how he wrote that bill. At the same time he was bragging his son was snorting and smoking to his heart's content. That's why Uncle Joe is a hypocritical cracker who put more black men in prison than Apartheid.

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Scout wrote: "Thanks, Beau and Papa, for explaining a brokered convention. What would have to occur for Democrats and/or Republicans to have a brokered convention this year?"

I think both would have to have deaths or debilitating illness. In Trump's case maybe a guilty verdict with jail time on the Mar-a-Lago. I do not see him going to trial before the election although I do see this case as a real problem for him. I do not see Trump with his ego stepping aside at all and Biden is the incumbent and the Democrats have rigged the run up to the nomination only for him alone. If he stepped aside, the party would bein disarray.

Nik, I don't want to damage the group's structural integrity, but this is more of a political post than a musical one. What's more, it's BREAKING NEWS...

Most US political campaigns have stirring campaign songs, by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, which convey a feeling of the candidate's all-American values, help rally the troops, and attract new voters.
