And Yet, the United states has the strongest banking system in the world and the Dollar is the base currency for everyone. The problem as I see it is not one of rules as much as interpretation.

For me, these arguments are about the Mona Lisa's smile. It is pure interpretive and people will go to great lengths to argue their point while they miss the bigger picture that it is a true masterwork.

Graeme Rodaughan Asking advice here....

Given the following.

[1] Past declarations of martial law: REF: https://www.ojp.gov/ncjrs/virtual-lib....

[2] Massive influx of military age males into the US including persons of interest...

Is it possible that mass terror attacks will be conducted in CONUS during 2024 by terror cells of foreign state (Iran, NK, China, et al) military men masquerading as immigrants, resulting in the Biden admin declaring martial law and obviating the 2024 presidential elections.

Is this...

[1] Only in your alt-right nightmares.
[2] Unlikely, dipstick, the US is rock solid under Biden.
[3] Might happen, toss a coin between traditional rule of law and Soros-funded activist over-reach.
[4] Likely, if Biden's poll numbers continue to decline and none of the lawfare against Trump succeeds.
[5] A sure bet, the lizards are taking over.

I hope not. But after we were blindsided by 9/11 and then how the Dems sided with BLM and Antifa while cities burned, I can't rule anything out. We'll have to wait and see.

Indeed. Perhaps I should write a novel based on this premise...

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments The US remains the most coveted target for most radical islamist groups, so an attack is entirely possible. Cancellation of the elections because of this is less likely (assuming though that nothing is impossible) and will hardly be supported by the dems themselves.
From what I remember Trump was mulling over attacking Iran before the transition of power, possibly toying with the same idea.
Pity he didn't

message 856: by Papaphilly (last edited Dec 30, 2023 07:24AM) (new)

Papaphilly | 5042 comments It can happen, no doubt. However, calling for Martial Law is a very rarely used law and if I am correct, not used since the early 1960's and never nation wide.

There are also two kinds of Martial law. First: where the military support Civilians and the type I think you actually referring, when the Military take over everything and restore order. That is the one with tribunals and no courts. Habeas Corpus is suspended (simply put, your day in court).

The country is fine, a bit troubled, but in reality fine.

message 857: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Martial law has been declared more than 60 times in the USA.
https://www.brennancenter.org/our-wor...

Considering that Lincoln specifically declared martial law in dealing with insurrectionists and those who aided them, I am a little concerned by the Dems' actions against a candidate whom they accuse of insurrection.

message 858: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments I think the term insurrection doesn't accurately describe what happened on January 6th. This was an isolated incident of an angry mob, not an organized attempt to take over the government. Lincoln was dealing with something much different. I think Democrats know this but insist on using the term to denigrate Trump. Surely there was no reason there to declare martial law. As for the terrorists coming over the border with Biden's blessing, that's on him if they attack. Declaring martial law seems extreme.

Graeme Rodaughan Scout wrote: "I think the term insurrection doesn't accurately describe what happened on January 6th. This was an isolated incident of an angry mob, not an organized attempt to take over the government. Lincoln ..."

Of course it doesn't, Scout. That's why no one has been charged with Insurrection - the prosecutors know they'd never get a conviction in a court of law.

All the charges are lesser charges like trespass, etc.

REF: Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimina....

You are right. The word 'insurrection,' is a political label used to smeer political opponents.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8071 comments A quote from that article: "I think he's done a reasonably sound job, but it's not been a 'wow' administration." Understatement of the year. I'd say he's done an all-around lousy job uniting the country, handling the economy, withdrawing from Afghanistan, jumping the gun on electric vehicles, attacking our oil industry and begging for oil from questionable less-regulated sources, draining our oil reserves for political reasons, declaring that our border is closed while encouraging illegal immigrants of all stripes by the millions to come here, dealing incompetently with China, telling easily verifiable lies, and making our country vulnerable by being weak on the global stage. Some of my friends say give him a break, he's an old man and isn't really making these decisions. I say that he should take responsibility for the state our country is in. He wanted to be president and he won, and the buck stops with him. That's the reality. I don't feel any pity for him or accept any excuses for his incompetence. He's the most powerful person in our country, our leader, and he's let us down. We have no leadership. And the world knows it.

Any predictions for the Iowa GOP Caucus?

What will it mean if Trump wins in Iowa? Or another candidate?

Graeme Rodaughan So, Trump's on the stump in Iowa, and Matt Tabbibi is along for the ride with an interesting long article on Substack here: REF: https://www.racket.news/p/donald-trum... *

Which has an interesting link harking back to the Clinton campaign in 2016 articulating the position that Trump was Clinton's preferred opponent for 2016...

Taibbi is channeling Hunter hard. Even if I hadn't read his preface to Fear an Loathing on the Campaign Trail, it would be obvious from that article that Taibbi aspires to be as sagacious and humorous as Hunter. Hopefully, he'll stop short on Mr. Thompson's other traits.

J. Gowin | 7975 comments Graeme wrote: "What's an LBJ?"

President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Americans tend to refer to certain presidents by their initials.

In 1968, Johnson declared his candidacy for president as the incumbent. That set the board for the DNC's strategy. Due to the Vietnam War, Johnson was an incredibly unpopular president. In the New Hampshire primary he got his a** handed to him. That caused him to bow out, leaving the Dems without a presumptive nominee. The assassination of RFK and the Democratic Convention in Chicago which followed were absolute nightmares.

Graeme Rodaughan There's the old history doesn't repeat but it rhymes.

In the current situation, it looks like the DNC are 'running with Biden,' while putting in place via the elimination of caucus votes a capacity to 'parachute in a replacement candidate.'

All they need is a viable reason, one they can sell to the country ... something like an emergency...

Being an author of thrillers, my mind naturally wanders to this entirely fictional scenario that could never happen in real life...

FADE IN

INT: Master Bedroom, White House

P: "Eh? ... Wassup?"
FL: (Advances with a loaded syringe) "It's just your regular morning shot filled with 'Daddy's little helpers,' to get you through the day."
P: "Eh? ... Corn Pop? ... Icecream!"
FL: (Inserts needle into her husband's shoulder and presses the plunger) "Just what the good doctor ordered." She steps back and places her left fingers over his left wrist, feeling his pulse. Her face is an impassive mask, except for her left eyebrow that rises in anticipation.

CUT TO: White House Pressroom. The press secretary addresses a crowded room.

PS: (A single tear glistens on her cheek) "With deep regret, I have to announce that our president passed away in his sleep overnight and was discovered by his wife, the first lady at seven am this morning-"

The room erupts with questions...

CUT TO: Gloomy, smoke-filled, boardroom. Five men and a woman dressed in suits smoke cigars while watching the press release on a big screen.

Shady One: "It's Done!"
Shady Woman: "Who do we drop in? Gavin or Michael?"
Shady Three: (Butts out cigar stub and addresses the room) "Michael."
Shady Woman: (Her eyes gleam) "What about the VP?"
[INSERT PAUSE]
All burst into hilarious laughter.

FADE OUT

Of course, this is wild scenario that could never happen in real life.

In the video Karine references 'our democracy,' multiple times. There are two meanings for the word 'our,'

[Public] 'Our,' means the whole community.
[Private] 'Our,' means her rulers.

I'm sure Karine is crystal clear that her words are meant to convey the public meaning, while understanding their true and private meaning.

Indeed. Easy to answer those questions, hence why the current DNC campaign is focused on Trump, they can't run on their record of achievement.

They are caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, [1] not enough people will believe the Biden admin has delivered a 'better America,' to allow them to campaign on a record of achievement (we are better). On the other hand [2] they have to convince a majority of voters (with propaganda and lawfare) that Trump and the MAGA/Republicans are an existential threat to everything (they are worse), but this strategy martyrs Trump, driving voters into his camp while relying on the flogged horse of the legacy captured state/corporate media with trust values below that of a dodgy used-car salesman with a gold tooth to sell their message.

At this point, the DNC is running out of options, what they have left are the following.

[1] Assassinate Trump with a 2A patsy.
[2] Conduct a massive cheat at the polls, especially through the battleground states.
[3] Parachute in by DNC fiat (hence why the DNC caucuses are being shot down) a 'charismatic,' candidate (+new VP) to replace Biden/Harris and beat Trump.
[4] Hunker down and prepare for a Trump win, while marshalling forces to disrupt society (Election denial, strikes, riots, etc) to wreck the new Trump administration.
[5] Get Nikki Haley elected.

Of course, there is a third alternative strategy.

The DNC could run a genuine 'Truth Commission,' on the Pandemic response and target Trump where he is weakest: his endorsement of the establishment pandemic response, Fauci, his 'Operation Warpspeed,' vaccine program, etc ... If they followed such a strategy, they could eviscerate Trump, and crush RFK-Jr' as a threat by bringing him back into the fold.

However they would have to throw major sponsers like Gates, and allies like the WEF, under the bus, so they won't do this.

Sun Tzu and history advises attacking your opponent where they are weakest. Unfortunately for the DNC, Trump's weakest point, the establishment pandemic response, is their own weakness, so they will shield Trump on this (you'll never hear them criticise Trump over operation warp speed) to protect themselves.

message 892: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments I like Haley, but I guess most folks go with Trumpo. Likely he’ll keep winning

message 893: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly | 5042 comments I think Hailey gets very close to Trump and then comes South Carolina and that is her state. It is all on the line for her. DeSantis is finished all but the shouting.

message 894: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to make a prediction. I think the next POTUS will be Nikki Haley. This isn't what I want to happen, it's what I think will happen.

Reason is that the US Deep State aren't fools. They know their man Biden isn't long for this Earth. They also know that Newsom doesn't command enough support to beat anyone, so they're looking for another one of their own to instal in the White House, in his place.

The Dems have no other viable candidates, so attention will be turned to Deep State Republicans.

Now that the political outsider DeSantis has proven to be a bit lightweight on the national stage, there is only one obstacle to the Deep State getting its Republican choice into power: the main political outsider, Donald Trump.

For this reason, by hook or by crook, Donald Trump will not be allowed to run for President. Mark my words, he will not run.

message 895: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan An interesting hypothesis, Beau.

We will certainly see what happens.

If Haley wins NH, then it will be 'game on.'

message 896: by [deleted user] (new)

And I haven't forgotten RFK Jr, Graeme, I just don't think he's made enough of an impact yet to upset Deep State plans. Should this change, he'll get the Trump treatment and won't be allowed to run.

As an outsider looking in, I don't believe the Deep State IS the Democratic Party, it simply seeks to align itself with whatever political movement shares its aims at that time. For example, Dubya Bush is a Republican but also Deep State to his core.

With Biden ailing and a shortage of credible DNC successors, it is only natural for the Deep State to use the left wing of the GOP to secure its aims for the next 4 years. Enter President Haley, a refreshing new boss - but exactly the same as the old boss.

message 897: by [deleted user] (new)

Naturally, Haley hasn't got a hope of beating Trump in the GOP's own contest, so the only solution is that Trump doesn't run.

message 898: by Papaphilly (new)

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Beau wrote: "Naturally, Haley hasn't got a hope of beating Trump in the GOP's own contest, so the only solution is that Trump doesn't run."

I m not so sure I agree. Trump is beatable. Lots of hype right now, but New Hampshire is coming and polls are showing a dead heat and South Carolina is right after. If Hailey comes in a close second or wins New Hampshire and wins South Carolina, I think the game changes quickly.

message 899: by [deleted user] (new)

Papaphilly, I don't know the intricacies of the American voting system like you do, but when I see a collection of polls like these, I just don't see how Trump isn't going to be the Republican nominee unless he is barred from running:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/...

He appears to command support of between 2/3 and 3/4 of the vote. Haley and Desantis are roughly tied with about 1/10 each. They're nowhere.

If Haley wins in NH and/ or SC, my honest response is so what? What am I missing?

message 900: by J. (new)

J. Gowin | 7975 comments The difference is the Republican Party. If Haley wins more delegates in the primaries, then she wins the Republican nomination. Trump could still run as an independent, but he wouldn't have the backing of the RNC or its members.

Is Haley likely to beat Trump in the majority of primaries? I don't think so, but I didn't think that a demented septuagenarian liar campaigning from his basement could beat Trump.
