The story opens with a young monastic - Sibling Dex - determined to become a tea monk, traveling from town to town dispensing kindness, listening and tea to anyone who presents themselves. But even after becoming a wildly respected tea monk, they still feel something missing. (view spoiler)

In searching for that missing piece, Dex meets and befriends a robot Mosscap.

This book is what used to be called a parable. It was cute, but a little too slow and belly-button gazing for me.

And honestly, while the main character explicitly describes themselves as having no gender, it felt completely irrelevant to the overall story. FYI - the robot describes themselves as also having no gender.
